Default cars you thought cool and went in when you were young

Remember we are going back a good few years now.

My dad had a Renault Fuego Turbo and I thought that was cool. Mind you after that he had a triumph Aclaim and that was crap

Mate had a new Capri 2.0S in black and I loved that.

I also remember driving someones Cavy LXi company car and thought I was the business in it.

Any memories you have?

Gary

My dads Porsche 924 in 1987 i thought was the dogs. I used to think it looked like night rider [being black and having a similar shape]. He used to pop the lights a lot too which made be giggle - daddy cool.........

When i was a teenager i thought the most wickedest hot hatch was a Van Aaken Fiat cinqecento sporting turbo. I really wanted one of those !!!!!!

There were probably a couple of others but they stand out in my mind

Dad had a Ferrari 400 from new when I was a kid....... Mind you saying that he sold his Dino to buy it

Regrets it now as the dino's held good money if he'd kept it and the 400 wouldn't be worth a ****!

How cool was my Dad I was always popular at home time as kid for some reason

My dad had one of those

Mate's dad had a brand new C plate 900 Turbo in black with black leather I still want one of those to this day.

Dad had a brand new 309 GTI back in '87. Think thats what first got me into cars. Still remember him doing 125 racing a Jag with me in the passenger seat. Not very clever I know, but I thought it was ace back then

My sister's mate's 18 year old brother bought a Sierra XR4i (the original 3 dr one with the bi-plane spoiler) and took delivery the day they were launched. Shame he couldn't insure it until he was 21. Ended up keeping it in his dads garage for 6 months before selling it. Sat in it a few times wishing he could take us for a spin.

I remember getting a lift one cold winters night in a mates dads Audi 200 Turbo, brand new, Think it was about 1986, all lit up like Star Trek in there, nice and warm and he hoofed it, front rose like it was going to take of and there was (what I thought at the time) amazing acceleration and pleasant woofly noise. Always loved that shape, its from when the Drag coeeficient of a car was big news and the big Audi was the slipperiest thing around. His dad always reminded me of 'Richard DeVere' from To the Manor born and he smoked cigars. I thought they were the height of class back then !

Went in a 911 Turbo aged about 16/17, youngish guy at the helm, it was an early turbo, tuned and fitted with the later 5 speed box, scared me ****less, the accelration was amazing and he nearly crashed it.

Capri Injection, my dad saved for ages to buy one, just before he was about to get it, I won a Golf GTI in a newspaper competion so he bought that instead, cant have been that much of a dissapointment, he ran it for 14 years.

Sierra Cosworth, a mates neighbour had a Moonstone blue 3 door, used to stand staring longingly at it.

Yeah, the Granada, we had a red coupe one (like in the Parklife video), it was just one dad bought to do up and sell, so wanted to keep it.

When growing up, I used to think that my dad's VW Sorcco was the business. It was the first series model that I think still look quite cool. He eventually went on to get a Fiat XC90, Lancia Beta 2000, Cavalier 1.8 Sri & Granada Scorpio 2.8 4x4 before he got into his Jags!

My favorite cars on the TV were the Smokey and the Bandit Trans-Am, the Porsche 928 in Risky Business and the Black Lamborghini Countach in the begining of the Canonball Run film. I also secretly liked the Knight Rider car in super pursuit mode, when all the wings and spoilers used to pop out. Sad I know.

She also had an old Merc SL, which was pretty nice, even though it was green

Audi Quattro turbo in pearlescent white with grey full leather and all the toys about an E or F plate.

Had a drive of the above car as a 18 year old apprentice mechanic, it blew my mind what an awesome car and still is an icon today.

Other than that Owen Oystons Lamborghini Countach that he used to pop into Farleton garage with very occasionally for a chat (used to droooooooooool over that car for sure), Garage has gone now bulldozed for houses and as for Owen Oyston...................... say no more.

When I was 8, I loved my mum's White Mk4 XR3i, then a mates mum got a brand new White Series 2 RS Turbo and his dad took us out for a blast in it...... wanted one from that day onwards!! Got one 10 years later... Havent been able to part with it since, still brings a smile to my face. 8)

Always liked watching Carlos Sainz thrashing round the Rally Stages in his Celica GT4.. so I bought one of those too!!

Rover SD1 Vitesse, remember reading about them in a magazine/book and thinking that their dashboard was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.. Dont think I'll ever buy one though.

Cheers,
Grant

When I'd first past my test my mum and dads next door neighbours had a "modified" mk2 Golf GTI for sale (in car adjustable damping, superchip, exhaust). I managed to convince them that I was in a position to be able to afford the car and the insurance and took it out for a blat. **** me!! I had my mums metro at the time and compared to that the Golf's handling and power was astonishing. I was pleased to watch the Golf (MK2 being the GTI for me) attain iconic status over the years.
