Default 993/996 running costs?

Considering buying my first Porsche (budget around 25k), but just wondered if anyone could give me a rough idea of annual running costs, eg. servicing, tyres, brakes, etc. for either the 993 or 996 model 911.

I'm not too fussed about petrol/insurance after the scoob

Cheers.

I'd say your average annual mileage would help, also if you intend to track it.

Sorry that was stoopid of me, annual mileage is around 12-15k. Not going to track it either. Cheers

Blip,

Try the www.pistonheads.com. Lots of 993 owners on there.

996 cost me less than £1K annually on servicing, tyres etc on average over last 5 years. Only doing 6-7k annually though. Insurance about 1K annually.

this year my 996 has cost me

350 - coolant header tank (they crack! - common fault)
320 - pair of rear tyres
100 - oil change
400 - expected service (this week - ouch)

= 1170

I get about 27 to the gal - the wife gets consistently 30+

Thats 10K in the last 10 months.

Thanks guys

What are the service intervals on the 993/996?

And is the 996 that much better than the 993?? I like the more original shape of the 993, but figure the 996 will be the safer ownership proposition.

What do you mean by 'better'? I have no personal experience with either, but most people on Porsche forums etc consider the '993' as a great model, last of the aircooled, last of the proper 'built to last' Porsches.
993's will go down as a classic, 996 wont.. think how many 996's you see nowadays.

Of course it depends what you want, 996 is of course newer, and people not in the know will value this. Seeing as you are doing a reasonable amount of miles in it, it may devalue the 993 by having a high-ish mileage on it when you plan to get rid (big post on Pistonheads about this).

I suggest take a look around various forums (Pistonheads, Rennlist) and maybe some testdrives..

Get a 993 and a Vectra or something similar.

The 993 has a "specialness" a 996 just can't match. Even the 996 GT3 RS, is not as "soulful" as a 993 RS hence the prices that they command.
