I've had my BMW 330d tuned again today using a tuning box supplied by Power Engineering. The results were fantastic...The car normally has 204 bhp and 304 lbs/ft at the flywheel..After 30 mins setting up it ran 231 bhp and 414 lbs/ft at the WHEELS..It absolutely flys.................more than happy...............Alan

Google a company called REVO (i think their full name is Revo-tecknic)(dodgy german spelling). They can remap the 130pd engine to around 180bhp which is a very good gain for your money given the 150pd engine only remaps to around 190bhp unless you chuck other mods at it. I think if you are willing to spend a little more you can see over 200bhp.

The best bit is that with REVO you can get a 'switcher' which is simply a device the plugs into the diag port and has two buttons. Standard & Performance. This way you can turn the car back to normal for servicing or whenever you fancy.

Here is REVO's stuff for the passat. Only 170bhp (I'm sure it was 180 for the golf when I looked into it!)

They list all the PD130's at 170BHP, but they always seem to come off the rollers at around 180.. The PD150 they list at 190, and that often gets nearer the 200 mark..

Try Ray West down at Thruxton. Ray has remapped a couple of my cars (not Scoobs) and I swear he can get more power from a remap than anyone else in the country. eg 227bhp from a 330D (184bhp version)

The prefered tuning box used by the guys over on Briskoda seems to be the dragon performance tuning box available from www.mrhoot.com

Always worth a look on ebay as mrhoot usually has a few auctions running.

Make sure you get a fully adjustable digital type, do not by the resistor in a box mod or you will get smoke and possibly engine management light problems.

Cheers

A mate of mine had his 150 golf done by DMS in Andover, they can do it by post aswell.... sounds odd, but they send you a box to plug in, yu send it to them, and they 'do their stuff' and send it back for you to upload the new map..... might be the best way considering the location of the guy that asked the question...??

just had my pd130 passat done on saturday by ADS in Preston with a REVO code. Excellent service and car seems much smoother with better spread of power. I wouldn't go near the cheaper tuning boxes they just trick the car to over fuel and you will probably get more smoke and worse mpg.
the REVO code and other proper remaps do much more than that, more power and more mpg (if you drive normally) price has just come down from £499 to £399 +vat as well.

I looked into it for my Fabia PD130. In the end went for the Revo as the tuning boxes just over fuel exactly as Pryally says. They produce alot of smoke too. A proper remap should make the drive smoother, power all the way through the rev range and better economy - as well as loads more power, and dont forget the torque. Revo is easiest as it is franchised to various dealers round the country. Jabbasport is highly rated and get more power than Revo but is based in Peterborough. I went for Revo as 1) closer, 2) got a switch to put back to standard when I want and 3) Revo doesnt seem to destroy the clutch whereas as more power seems to do so (other Briskoda users).

I totally recommend Revo.

Don't worry that they don't list all cars, they can do them.... but you'll need to ask them about the options......

There is a europe wide company owned by a guy in East Belfast who specialise in chip tuning TDI's. The owner is a cousin of a colleague.

Keep an eye on www.tdperformance.co.uk - their site is down at the min, but dont know why.

I have no experience of the company and am in no way associated with them.

im struggling to believe your power afterwards was at wheels,,im guess ing 204 at the fly would be about 165 at the wheels, which would say you gained nearly 70 bhp and even more incredible 304 lb ft at the fly would be maybe 260 at the wheels and now you got 414 lb ft at the wheels !! that would be a 150 lb ft gain.
Sorry but id have to see that to believe it ,,,,i hope the gearbox and clutch can cope with 450 lb ft going through it.

For VAG cars in General try Jabba Sport near Peterborough & get one of their custom maps, our 110 Octavia Oil Burner went to 164 bhp, will pull an indicated 135 yet still return 55 mpg on a run (cruising at indicated 85-90) They can do even better on the 130 engines

Jabba Sport :- Tel: +44 (0)1733 211779

A custom remap is always the best way to go, beware of tuning boxes as some of the less reputable ones simply throw in more fuel, you can tell them from behind by the big black cloud

very true. My Fabia has a RICA remap and is running 158 whp and doesn't smoke. Econamy remains the same, there are no sharp boost spikes or anything, just smooth power.

that is a custom map
