'The beast'
For those people who remember it / have Evo mag this month - what was 'the beast' all about. 27 litre V12 merlin engine in the most unattractive body shell in the world. However it had 750hp and did 200 mph in the 70's so not too shabby i suppose, if not a touch dangerous.
I wonder what 1/4 mile times it was getting ?

I've got a VERY old copy of Street Machine somewhere with an article about The Beast.
IIRC it used to have a Rolls Royce grill on it, but they got the hump as it wasn't an 'official' RR. So the bloke who built it had to take the grill off

I remember that thing . I think I read somewhere that it fell into disrepair in more recent years.

Just to give you another angle of perspective - the Aston Martin Lagonda is on a par with the Lamborghini Mura in comparison to the beast !

about 10 years or so ago i used to be on the pdrc drag racing stand at doncaster custom car show each year and this thing was on show one year
it looked very rough
at the end of the show we had to push all the cars out of the building (not allowed to start engines in side )
once out side you could start up
the owner started it up what a noise ! & smoke !!
would love to see it again restored

Ahh, John Dodds car. It must have sounded incredible! Remember the story of someone in Germany getting mullered at around 200mph - apparently he was straight on the phone to Rolls Royce to order one, but they had no idea what he was talking about!!

In Evo, theres the writers talking about the fastest car. And one guy mentions a Rolls Royce Phantom which had the same engine in it.
Or is he just BS ing?
