These tend to be the car of choice here, Toyota Celsior (otherwise known as a Lexux LS400). Deep deep tints all round are a must. It may be illegal, but the J-police don't stop Yakuza cars.

The only place I've ever seen a Lamborghini LM002 in real life was outside Moscow University on a Friday night!! Not sure if you know, there's a viewpoint where loads of bikers gather(ed). PMSL, that was in the late 90's. I still remember emailing my brother. "You know how everyone says this is a poor country? Guess what I just saw!"

I'm told that all imports into Japan pay a sort of carriage/landing fee which goes to the Yakuza, a nice little earner I should imagine. They also have direct links into political parties and have intimidated journalists from investigating their affairs too closely. People asking too many questions have been shot.
But after the Kobe earthquake, it is said that the Yakuza were providing food and water to people 24 hours before the government agencies showed up. So there doesn't seem to be a great appetite in the general population (or politically for that matter) for shutting them down.
They are institutionalised and apparently left pretty much free to carry on with their businesses. The names of the Yakuza organisations are public knowledge, the largest recently held a press conference to announce its new boss, it was on the TV news!

You sometimes see the Yakuza cars travelling at speed, often very agressive driving, U turns in the middle of roads, weaving through traffic flashing headlights etc. I had one idiot sitting just inches off my back bumper a few months ago at about 110km/h, headlights on full beam, weaving around to let me know he wanted to come by, even though there was nowhere I could pull in to let him past. I was tempted to give him the old brake test, but I really didn't fancy having to stop after an accident and swap details, didn't think it would be a good idea for them to know where I live.

Shome mistake surely? 70s Jags included the, the XJS and XJ saloons - all had straight sixes or v12s.
