Default 83 mpg and 0 - 60 in 6.3 seconds ??

In Richard Hammonds motoring section on Friday, there was a small bit on Volkswagen's concept car the EcoRacer. Apparently it has a 1.5 diesel engine with a new injection system that powers it to the stats above......

I thought perhaps it was April 1st, is this a wind up ??

Apparently they plan to put the technology in a 2 seater motor to take on the Mazda MX-5 for about £15000. Am I dreaming or is this technology really going to happen ?

It would make my vRS appear guzzly..........

The other question is, can you chip it ???

Sounds far fetched to me.

Heard that they had developed 1.5 litre supercharged and turbo charged engines of one type or another that gave high power output's with good mpgs. Not sure on the specifics.

That was a 1.4 petrol that's compound charged. And it's available now, supposedly reasonable performance while maintaining economy. But in reality it's about 150 BHP and still not as economical as a modern TDI so you have to wonder why bother? If you want performance above all else then a high-power petrol does the job, but if economy is a significant concern then diesel is the only real solution.

Here we go, not sure about the colour and it appears to be def only a concept....

See where it gets such a great 0 - 60 time as it weighs nothing.....

The article in the newspaper column was a little bit misleading, it didn't mention it was made of carbon fibre......
