Default ALFA ROMEO GTV 3.0 V6 24V Cup-Anyone had one?

I'm bored of the scoob, I'm on my 3rd one now. Wrx, P1 , then a Rb5 Wr.
I really like the look of these Gtv's, and with it being a cup limited edition may retain some value. Will this use more fuel than my scoob though? I got 210 miles to a full tank of Optimax the other day, my Rb5 is running approx 260-270bhp. I've found a local Alfa specialist who says he knows a chap who remaps them, he says the engines are very good and sound sweet. I know they are FWD, which is a bit naff I know, but I've had 20 cars now and fancy a change completly.

Any advice or opinions?

TIA

Haven't had a GTV but did have a 164 with the same engine and I would imagine that you will probably get slightly more MPG out of the GTV, my big heavy 164 was slightly more economical than my MY99 (standard) Impreza. The main difference seems to be on motorways - the 164 returned much the same MPG as the scoob - but cruising 10-15 mph faster.

The engines are fantastic but do need looking after. If you want some nice cheap tuning check out www.squadra-tuning.com. I've had a couple of their chips in my 164 and now my 146 and they are well worth the money. You will miss the Scoob's mid-range but the Alfas make such a nice noise it's really not that much of a problem to thrash them a bit.

I'm not going to say "do it - you won't regret it" because to be honest I bought the Scoob to replace the 164 mainly because I was pissed of with niggly little (mainly electrical) problems.

I seriously considered just the standard 3.0 V6 when I got the Scooby. The nagging reliability doubt was the only thing that stopped me. Fantastic looking cars, especially in green or silver.

I've had 3 GTV's the last a Cup in Alfa Red the others a 2.0 TS and a normal v6 3 Litre, 2 Spiders as well. Sounds daft but make sure your Cup has the numbered badge on the dash, it may also have a Cup badge on the rear.

Reliability is not an issue, get the cambelt done at 60k, check the rear suspension bushes they are prone to excessive wear and noise at low speed.

Electricals can be problematic but nothing an average DIYer wont be able to sort.
Some daft things like boot release button is inside glove box, string pull to release petrol cap if electrical release fails.

Prone to stone chipping to bonnett.

AutoDelta make some wonderful exhausts to complement the V6 including a quad pipe system which is awesome.

Try Black & White Garage in Cold Ash nr Newbury Berkshire and Alfa Aid in Maidenhead for any expert advice.

And lastly dont forget this is an Alfa Romeo, a car with a proper racing heritage, sadly there's no getting away from the fact the GTV & Spider is based on a Fiat Tipo.

How does it compare to the driving experience of a 275bhp scoob? A guy at work said the engine was very dull and peak power was very high up in the rev range, and said it was uninspiring after the car looks so good. Is it similar power del of a golf vr, very sluggish between 2-3k rmp after that things get better? The guy at work has put me off, I want i to look nice of course but keep me intersted for a bit. Is it worth buying a cup over the the normal v6 Gtv? Cheers, Dean

Are you sure the guy at work is in possession of a pulse? There's no way an Alfa V6, of any persuasion, can be described as dull Yes, peak power is quite high up the rev band, but that's merely a trick to get you using it's vocal range to it's full potential
