Default Best buy for circa 3.5k...???

Hi all,

Ok so i'm thinking of selling my pride and joy of the last 3ish years (93 wrx), and am slightly confused as to what i want next...

I am needing to sell the WRX to try and cut down on monthly expenses as i am saving for a house and don't really want anything that is going to make me spend again, so basically something that has a bit of grunt from stock but is'nt that tunable...does that make sense...???

I have looked at a few 2.5 V6 Mitsi Galants, which really do seem a nice car, and when there is so many around for the 3.5/4k mark i am very tempted, but, is there anything else i could consider, preferably jap...

Any help muchious appreciated...

G.

Ive just rid of my UK99 Scoob, and bought a Volvo S70 T5. All the bits and bobs, solid, will never rust, and a gorgeous 5cyl engine. It had 240BHP standard, and for £350 all in, Ive now got 290BHP as I sent my ECU away and got it RICA'd. Now the car will go from 80 to 120+ in seconds! It would p**s all over my Scoob on the motorway, and will get to 60 in around 5.5-6 seconds! I paid only 3k for the car with 64k miles on it! So 290BHP for £3.5k and it'll last forever and has a bit of stealth! Try one, you'll love it

Civic VTi......160bhp standard....fast enough up the rev range...but not that tunable as youd need to turbo it....(major expense..), and much MUCH more economical than the scoob.

my 1994 300zx. It's a non turbo running 240 bhp. Not much more tuning potential.

Still pretty quick 0-60 in 7 seconds, lots of torque from the 3.0 litre and power is always there (no turbo's to spool). Handles well too on the Tein suspension.

And the best bit is it does 30 mpg!

Or my 4.0 litre soarer, you'd be mad to tune it!

Saab 9k Aero - decent one for 3k 225bhp standard. £300 for 270bhp/320ftlbs. Always a very nice place to be with great seats and 32mpg.

However, if you dont want to get tied into tuning, I'd say not to get a turbo car as both the Saab and Volvo will draw you into the power quest just as the Scooby did... you always want more and they make it easy for you! You need something that is at peak power and isnt worth even starting to tune.

I can give you a nice Ford Cougar V6 for £4000 only 35k miles and in very good condition, something you wont want to tune but has some reasonable power (0-60 about 7secs) and very reliable

The "I can give you" bit sounded good, but the £4000 for a Cougar

Volvo, Volvo, Volvo, Volvo, Volvo, Volvo, Volvo, Volvo, Volvo, T5

lol.. why not £4k for a Cougar? nothing wrong with that. if its what the cars worth then fine, personally Ive found it to be a very nice car. better than the Volvo S40 we have at work thats for sure.

I have a Galant 24v sport Manual and it is a great car, had a civic VTI 1.8 before it and the Galant feels as fast accellerating and the torque is wonderful.
I get 30MPG most places so about the same as the civic.

The Galant does roll a bit more than the Civic but i prefer the drive the Galant. I will fit some lower Eibachs to sort this.

Galant is a good solid car fun to drive hard and easy to do big distances in.The Civic is again a good solid car but high gearing about 18/19mph per 1000rpm in 5th so at 70 you are doing around 3.8k revs makes it a bit of a pain on journeys. However it does not redline until 8200rpm(from memory)

If i had to choose between the two i would have another Scoob - but seriously the Galant has the edge day to day over another Civic for me.

Have a look at
http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/index.php?

non vr4 Galant sections in there

No contest mate you goto get an Alfa 156 2.5.
Stunning looks and styling and the best V6 in the world.
Not quite the power of the Volvo and Saab mentioned but definately beats them both for passion and soul.
You can pick up a decent one with leather interior for less than 4k
I aint selling one by the way... I am looking for one myself

cheers

I looked at Alfa but the problem was RELIABILITY! too many horror stories just from posting on here!
I really liked the 156 and wanted one but was put off by reliability issues and cost to fix as well. My Mitsi may not be cheap for parts but at least they last and do not go wrong (gearbox permitting)

Well as it happends i looked at a 300zx before i bought the scoob, i really do like them but they are alittle on the low side for me (6' 7"), i went to test drive a few but never got out of the showroom/driveway as i had to lay down to get in them...

Saab Aero sounds tempting, i've always liked the saabs and did'nt realise that they resell for these sort of prices...

Thanks all for the comments...
