Default Astra Isuzu 1.7TD problems :-( - HELP

Hello All,

I know this isn't a Vauxhall forum but there seems to be a wide spread of knowledge covering all makes/models of cars. Thought someone might be able to assist.

My brother has a Vauxhall Astra 1.7TD.

Problem:
  • Oil pressure light keeps flickering on/off and now becoming more regular
Checked the oil level = it's fine.
Performance isn't affected.
  • Does anyone know what the temperatue gauge should sit at (normal temp). It currently seems to sit at the mark above 90 degrees.
  • How do you know if the water pump isn't working?
Comments appreciated
Frank

I've got a 1.7TD, the temp gauge on mine at normal temp is always just below the middle, whatever degrees that is.

probably just a dodgy wire or faulty pressure switch remove the switch and fit an oil pressure gauge and see what it reads if this is ok check the connections and either make good if it looks dodgy or fit a new pressure switch

Oil pressure light fixed: wire which enters the main loom from the oil pressure switch had been resting on the gearbox cover so much so that the cable shielding had worn away exposing bare wires! - cut and resoldered and its fine now.

Still not sure about the radiator fan temp though - when does the fan come on - can't get it to 100 degrees, it doesn't seem to wanna get that hot!

Thanks
Frank

Fan should come in around 95 degrees..If the water pump aint working it would overheat in a matter of a few miles..When you say not working,do you mean that the impellor may have fell off the back of the pump?
Anyway,on a 1.7 Isuzu the water pump is easy to do and cheap as chips..If you have any doubts just replace it..

Dont sound a lot wrong with the car if ya ask me..

spoke to a vauxhall garage today. The dude there said that diesels run alot cooler than petrols thus why its taking me ages to raise the temp enough to set off the fan switch.

as you say, I think all is ok, its just many things seem to go wrong at once on vauxhalls so get you thinking that its all going to fail terribly

glad you said the impellor is easy to change - I had visions of it being a cambelt off job to access it

cheers
Frank
