Default Rover 220 TD for commute?

Ive got to do an 80 mile commute every day starting next month, so i want a car that can handle the mileage, but gives OK performance. I noticed that the Rover 220 TD are brilliant mpg, and have decent performance for a diesel. Ive got a budget of a grand, so that would suit fine i think. However, bit concerned about the head gaskets on those cars. What do you think? is it a good choice?

Friend ran one for 3 years and never had any trouble with it, excellent mpg and a really good performer. Only got rid due to getting a company car.

Pretty sure the head gasket problems only effected with the K series petrol engines.

Bullet proof, just make sure you get the 115bhp version (badged SDi) and not the 105bhp version (badged Di). One's intercooled, the other isn't.
