Question Mk IV Golf GTi

Hope someone can help,

A mate of mine has the above and over the last year or so she's said that her "emissions" warning light keeps coming on. She takes it in to the dealers they keep the car for a day or so and then it stays off for a while and then comes on again.

Now the dealer has told her that they just have sensitive sensors on them and it is nothing to worry about but she / I somehow feel that the dealer is not telling her something... ie it is a problem that could be fixed under warrenty but they just can't be ar$ed to sort it out for her.

Anybody got any ideas?

Cheers

Andy

My mate has got the exact same problem with his, and the dealers response was the same. So he has just left it now, hasnt affected the car's performance in any way.

Must just be a common fault across the range.

More that likely theres a fault with one of the sensors like MAF or Lambda that the dealer is incapable of detecting and remedying. Some dealers are useless at fault finding. Might be worth getting her onto one of the VAG forums and find someone local to her thats got VAGCOM (VW diags software) and find exactly what fault its logging.
