Question Fast Estate

My mate is looking for a fast estate car for less than £5000 and is considering the Legacy. He would like to know the difference between the GT and the GT-B as he's seen then both these in his price range.
Also, does anyone here have any experience of these cars or have any other suggestions for a fast estate car?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the link to that website

The only problem with the 328i is for the same money the legacy/volvo/audi are faster although the BMW has a better MPG

I would get either a mint low millage Volvo 850R - [i know where there is a 72k one forsale], or a nice phase 2 V70 T5. These cars come with 240-250 bhp standard, will sit at 150mph fully laden with a boot full - and when chipped can hit 120mph in 20 seconds. I would have a Volvo all day long.

I sold my Scoob and got one of these,it's an ST200. Was just over 5K with very low mileage.
Nice and quick, handles well enough and is very smooth too.

Depends on the the era, but diffs between GT and GTB is mostly suspension in general (since BG5B when the first GT-B actually appeared).

The GT is the luxo tune (usually only auto, no Bilstein dampers, sometimes VDC on BH era, smaller wheels and brakes on BGs). GT-B gets the Bilstein dampers of course, manual or auto, watch for the ones with factory nav as it doesn't work in the UK, but you need it to keep control of the climate control. McIntosh audio is pretty decent on BH era.

I think that's the highlights on a postcard HTH

GTs can be significantly cheaper and easier to insure than GT-Bs. Liv-Vic wouldn't insure me with a GT-B, onother company (forget who) wanted £500pa more for the GT-B.

The brakes on mine were the same as on the GT-B, but yes it had 15" wheels not 17 and no Bilsteins.

The leggy has more internal space than the Skoda or A4 (about the same as an A6) or 3 series and is a better drive than the Volvo. I didn't even consider going FWD.
