Default VX220 Turbo

Just bought one !

I now have a turbo again !!!!

Last owner spent a mint at Courtney on a stage 2, full milltek, and nice uprated discs and pads all round a couple of months ago. 241bhp on a hot day ! He didnt advertise the fact on pistonheads as he thought it might put people off which I guess it could have done. Its only done 9k and is in the nice gunmetal gray colour.

Had a standard one for 72hrs last yr on a Vauxhall test, wanted one from then on. After the Scoob always said I would let someone else spend the money on the mods.

After having many fast cars this is the quickest, 60 - 120 is loony and they are geared for 150 !!

Roll on Wednesday when I collect it, now I can come back on the Scooby runs !

Looks lovely, often wanted one of those

Is it true that none of them have aircon?

Thx

None have air ! The options list was very small, and very expensive, £500 for central locking !!! £700 for a stereo.

Shame none have air And the options prices for them are just silly. No wonder Vauxhall had a hard time shifting them. They shot themselves in the foot with that car imo.

Has a much nicer powerplant than the Elise. Only the current Superchargerd VVTi engine is possibly better, but you cannot get that as standard

Know what you mean.

What if they had labelled it Lotus/Vauxhall VX220, would be worth alot more ! The fact its built by Lotus, designed by the Elise team with input from GM, shares 114 key parts with the Elise S2 and has a far better engine than the K series still doesnt help the values. I am hoping they hold their money now, its lost 10k in under 2yrs already.... but 2001 VX na sell for 12 / 13k so its looking good.

Well, with a little luck, when you are thinking of selling it. I may just have enough cash to take it off your hands

I'd have the aircon. My scoobie is my first car to have it, and its soo nice

Not sure if the soft top would help to totally offset that.

If the vx220 is anything like the elise then it will get mental hot without aircon - even when you've got the top off!! The heat just nails you through the bulkhead!

Might be a bonus for the winter as the heaters arent up too much ! he he...

Did think about the s2000 or a boxster, but wanted the rawness of the VX220 plus the fact its a far bit quicker, but at the expense of comfort. For that I have her Clio Cup !!

Let us know what you think when you pick it up mate, was looking at elise and one of these, elise looks under powered though so maybe this is a good option. What power do they put out standard? Around 200?

I've got a non-turbo VX, and its shaping up to be the best car I have owned. Mine's rapid enough: god knows what a fettled Turbo would be like

Mine gets used every day, all weathers. Its just as happy in traffic queues as it is charging down the Cat and Fiddle. Its utterly reliable, easy on tyres, sips fuel (35mpg), rides unbelievably well, doesn't leak, has bags of useable torque, and is amazingly comfortable, far more so than you would think. Strangely, the Lotus boys all wave and flash. So I wave back. Downsides? Heater is absolute crap, and the inside of the windscreen and dash gets filthy within minutes of taking the top off. Thats it.

And its far more satisfying blowing people away in a Vauxhall than it is a Lotus.

Thanks Andy....

Keep an eye out as my best mate lives in Chesterfield, spent many a night in Zanzibar and the Baha Beach club...... Oh what lovely ladies...he he.

Just hoping theres no rain tomorrow...

They are 200bhp standard, Courtney will only tune to 240bhp ish without the addition of charge coolers. You have to have the full Milltek for this though £1200 plus fitting !!! Mine was 241bhp on a hot day.....

Put a post in general for someone with trade access to HPi it and Scoobynet came up trumps again... Sent them £10 of beer tokens.

Sounds like a lot of fun and will -no doubt- go like a scalded cat! Looks great too. The upgrade package is interesting as if memory serves the problem with the development of this car was one of getting adequate cooling.

Do take care though, lots of journalists put these into hedges at the press launch!

Enjoy
