I have to try and find a Diesel car (family sized) for under 3k

I just need it to be as economical as possible. Whats the best i can hope for, for under 3k. I've looked in Autotrader etc and spotted some high mileage ones such as Passats, Vectras, Mondeos, 405's etc most of which are well above 100k on the clock.

Is it safe to say that these cars are going to be okay with that mileage or should i look for an older car with less mileage on the clock.

The only criteria is that it needs to be low maintenance, cheap to run and reliable and i really do want a family sized car.

Skoda Octavias are about that money - always get good reviews, and with a VAG engine, ought to be bomb proof. Probably be high mileage though.

You could get an A4 saloon TDi for that! Nice motors - you would want SE spec with 110bhp engine though!

We have the avant as a hack, and it is sitting pretty at 135k miles - barely run in!
