Default To buy - Audi A3 or A4 tdi??

Hi all

Well I was all set to buy an Audi A3 tdi 130 sport (Im doing loads of miles) - budget is 10k...........then I noticed the A4 tdi 130 sport was similar money............so which should I go for? Will the A4 have more toys? same service intervals? Maybe even an A4 tdi 2.5 ? I guess one big question is which will depreciate fastest?

Any thoughts or experiences with either...............

thanks

Andy

Andy,

Service intervals should follow the VAG variable system which is upto 30k miles or upto two years between servicing.
The A4 looks a lot more car for the money IMO.

If you are buying diesel for excellent fuel economy then forget the 2.5TDi.

Cheers

The A3 will hold its value better in the longer-term, there is no doubt about this.

How many miles do you actually plan on doing however? If you do the calculations it may not work out much cheaper running the diesel, as purchase price is quite a lot higher, diesel fuel is 4-5p/litre more than petrol and servicing costs more. People also often underestimate the MPG you can get out of a modern petrol.

Im in an S2000 in the moment, I make 25mpg.......I expect to get probably double that in a tdi, it will pay for itself! I do 1500 miles a month sometimes more.

Been to look at a few today, far fewer A3 tdi 130s in a 3 door around, that in itself probably means it will hold its money better, though the A4 seems shed loads more roomy, having said that Im the only one in it 98% of the time AND Id like some S3 wheels for the 3 door to make it at least look nice
