How come it was quicker than me
I was driving home to Horsham last weekend and came across some w@nker in a BMW 5 series who wouldn't get out of the fast lane so I flashed him a few time and gave him the Gareth Hunt hand signal. He moves over and I go to overtake from 70ish and **** me if the coont accelerates away. To make it worse I'm pretty sure it was a diesel 'cos it was puffing out loads of black smoke. I've got a remapped bugeye which should surely be faster than some diesel beemer. Car now booked in with Gatwick Subaru for a check over.

Another person who thinks his scoob is the fastest car in the world ......Welcome to the real world fella.
I think the moral of the story is be careful with your flashing and hand signals because it can come back to haunt you.

it was a diesel though and I thought they were heavy as ****? I should have put I gave him the hand signal 'cos he was just sat there in the fast lane doing 60ish and nothing on the inside. Was either undertake him or flash or just sit there behind him. I think the cocky ****** had seen me in his mirror and wanted to play gamnes

Yesterday I had to hand back my Seat Leon FR TDi
Whilst it only(!) had 150bhp it had 320 Nm of torque and weighed 1333kg. Compare this to a standard MY04 STI at 343Nm and 1470kg and you can understand why I was always suprised at how well it went.
My MY04 STi PPP may be faster/quicker etc, but the Leon always put a smile on my face in its ability to annoy more powerfull cars.
It also took me all the way to Barcelona and the South of France (3500 miles in 2 weeks) without the fuel bill the size of 3rd world debt.

Why do some people think all Scoobs are the quickest things on Earth?
Shock horror you got beaten by a 5 series!

Just read the link pretty sure it's the same guy, what a fooking tw@t. I only gave him a hand signal after he sat there blocking the fast lane. If I ever see him again i will put him in a world of hurt for saying those things about my wife.

In Germany I had an audi planted on my behind at 110mph, I floored it and Mr Audi didn't go anywhere. Assumed it was an RS, till he flew past at 140 with 3.5TD on his back
That was in a Bug Eye Sti, Decat Remap.

PS I doubt it was a RS, probably a S.
To the person who started this thread: the answer to your initial question is... because it is a DMS535d, but even if it was a normal 535d you would struggle to pull away.

if its stats are 0-100 in 13.5 seconds then Id defo expect it to pi55 all over the scooby..... whats the scoobs stats for that? Id guess thats about their quarter mile time... knowing a standard imprezas quarter mile time is high 14's its no suprise to me.

That's the thing though - a 5 series is only marginally heavier than the equivilent engined 3 series (was it a new shape or old shape?? ). If you hooning about in a newage impreza the odds quickly start stacking up against you
I've driven 530ds and there no question that these (or a 330d ) are not slow - driven properly through the gears or with an autobox they are pretty damn fast for what they are.

It was one of them horrible looking new ones with no badges on the back. And for your information tobisausage I sat well back while he blocked the fast lane and only started flashing and giving the old gareth hunt went he sat there for over a minute doing less than 70.

Of course - depending on spec/import etc. (I can guess where this is going)

So it was a new shape beamer too - 535d, I've not had the pleasure of driving one of them yet, but going by the 530d it will not be any slouch

At higher speeds it's areodynamics that matter more than weight.
A remapped 530D or standard 535D would easily leave a UK scoob at 60mph+
Even standard a 535D will do 0-62 in 6.5 and onto a limited 155mph. A UK scoob will not stand a chance in a straight line apart from a standing start.
If it was the guy in the other thread then he's claiming it is a remapped 535D, if it is then I would imagine it would be quicker than an STi at motorway speeds.
I'm suprised you are suprised that the BMW was quicker.
Cheers

scoobys brief is to go 0-80 in a hurry on ruff roads ...
not to hang on the back of large engined barges on the motorway.....( if you do this in a classic, 140 + , theres every chance youll kill it )

Yes you were right to flash him if he was doing what you say, no matter what car someone is in they have no right to be sitting in the outside lane when lane 1 is clear However this seems especially aplicable to BMW drivers (I used to own one and family members still do so I am not anti BMW but there is no denying a lot of BMW drivers are total stuck up w@nkers who can't drive).
The problem is your new age WRX isn't as quick as an Sti or a classic shape scoob with a full decat and when you go up against a 535 even when in diesel form you are going to struggle.
The BMW driver on that thread is a tw@t plain and simple but you need to realise you haven't got the fastest version of a scooby and there are lots of modern cars out there that now make scoobs not as fast as they used to look.
