Mercedes SL ?

Mercedes SL ?
I have the opportunity to purchase a 1992 300 SL 24 Valve (one owner full MB service history 50,000 miles).
Price is very very tempting.
I have always like these cars, and this one comes with 18" OZ alloys and a hard top.
Does anyone have opinions in on these cars?

DS - good point.
Some pre 1989 SLs look very tempting, but as I commute 1,000 miles per month and my thoughts are that a mid 1990s car would be more "suitable", or rather, I prefer an SL to a 3 series convertible.
Autobahn have some 1985-89 SLs for £15,000 + -very very "cool".
It will be a few months before I am in a position to purchase, so just asking on views.....
Thanks for your thoughts.

The 107 model (pre 1990's) may look like a classic, but is an absolute dinosaur. The current model is a great drive, but like a collander, solid but full of leaks. The 129 model was one of the last proper Mercs that were built to a very high standard.

Nearly bought one when I sold my classic scoob about a year ago, They had one in junction 28 motors a R-reg SL280 with 40k miles in black with 18"inch AMG alloys, for £14,995 Always wanted one, but finding a good one for the right price is hard to get. And it was sold as I got the money together and couldnt find a decent one for months and ending up giving up on the SL's.
I remember asking a question on here and I think it was craigdmcd who responded to my questions about it as if I remember rightly you work at Mercedes,

Yep, I most certainly do, what crime I commited I'm unsure of, but they won't let me escape.

As Craig says, the 129 is widely acknowledged as being the last of the properly built Benzes. Olly of this parish had a W129 500SL, and that was seriously quick, for something that weighed almost 2 tonnes, and it rode like a magic carpet. I would imagine the 24V is similar without the fuel economy, I do know that that motor makes W124 E class estates shift

Richard, I see where you are coming from. Must say that when they were the current model I thought they were ice cool.
As for 'the last of the proper Benzs' I know exactly what you mean. I have a MB and the interior quality leaves a little to be desired.

I work in Scotland, where our hourly rate is £94 + vat per hour, I get paid a little over £10 an hour. The biggest problem, is the company I work for has far too much unproductive staff. I was watching The Apprentice USA the other night on BBC2, and Donald Trump was talking about values like trust, respect, etc, that were needed to be a good boss, and I noted that the managers in aftersales have none of this from the workers. Guess I'll have to remain being a minnow since I'm too full of clever ideas to be a manager.

Having driven both the SL 280 and the 500 the 500 would be the one to have but running costs might be an issue .In the right colour i think they look sheer class ,with a bomb proof engine and solid body you cant go wrong, i`d have one tomorrow.
I looked for one a few years back but all the nice ones were out of my price range, there are some crackers out there its just finding the right one at the right price.
Good luck.

Thank you for the replies.
There are a few low mileage ones out there - but always in the wrong colour.
e.g. 280 SL 1991 38,000 miles - £9,995 FMBSH one lady owner etc etc etc.......but WHITE.
It will be a few months before I can purchase, so I guess the more I look at the better
