Thumbs down X-type clutch - £1700?

Holy crap, just been quoted £1700 for a new clutch on the X-type - craziest thing I've ever heard!

Sounds high, but it's very labour-intensive - always a problem with the Mondeo (which to all intents and purposes the X-type is, in terms of servicing)

Problem is,is that it has a dual mass flywheel which are around £1000 on their own.Now you dont have to change these all the time but on Jags there usually very worn.Getting the box in and out is about 10 -12 hours and then a clutch on top...

Welcome to jag ownership..

How much is it for a Mondeo 4x4 if they're the same underneath? Might be worth seeing if Ford will do the work saving you money?

Even on the fwd Mondeos it's a lengthy job 'cos the front subframe has to be dropped to swing the gearbox out .... might be worth trying what Drac sez.

I've got the svc manual here on the latop. Does look like a big job... crossmember does not dropping etc, really cannot be arsed to do it myself though. Will try a Ford garage - good idea, thanks!

If it's done by a Ford garage, is the warranty kept?

Just come out of warranty unfortunately Ford garage flat-out refused to even look at it because they don't have the special tools etc!
