500bhp 22B or mazda MX5?
The answer is genuinly both,
I am posting here because I have relpaced my everyday car with a mazda MX5 and all I can say is wow!
it is a british racing green 1.8 mark 2, with tan leather and I am loving every minute.
The steering I hate to admit, is in a different league from the impreza's and the lack of power really doesn't have any effect on the smile on my face.
I will say that it really needs a limited slip diff to help with low speed drifting round bends.
The thing feels solid as a rock, is pleasant over bumps, has a comfortable seat and even a great sound from the stereo.
it even goes nearly 300 miles on 40 litres of juice!
I wish I had bought one of these ages ago!
am I considering selling the 22B???? not a chance!

The 1.8iS has an LSD mate, you could prob pick one up off a scrappy or similar....
My sister had the MK1 1.6 (115bhp) and the MK2 1.8iS, both wicked cars, great fun to drive and as you say the lack of power means nothing. Can be fixed though, they take very well to super or turbo charging

was tempted, but decided the mx5 doesnt need the turbo. want to keep one car reliable and efficient, plus it is a nice untouched UK example with full mazda history.
difficult to find a 1.8iS written off but am trying! could do with finding a breakers!

MX-5's are top quality cars. My first was a 1994 1.6 (115bhp) then I purchased a brand new 1.8i (the non 's' model that had no electric windows, no power steering and no electric mirrors) and the non-power steering was excellent - remeinded me of what it felt to really feel the road. The 1.8 was the 130 bhp which was fun, but not enough so I imported a supercharger from the US (a well known make) and put it on with the help of a mate. At the time it was one of about 4 s/c cars on the road in the UK and was great. Lovely noise from a new exhust, the whine of the s/c was not too bad and no turbo lag at all (obviously!). At 80mph she was on max boost, and flooring it would produce a great grin, with more useable power through the range than a scoob. I reckon she was on about 180-190 bhp.
Major off on one road in Brentwood once but that was because the car was better than me. Great cars and a lot of fun to drive.

I had a MK2 MX-5 1.8is, cracking little car, I know what you mean about the steering, they feel very chuckabale, and handle great, Huge amount of fun to drive, Solved the lack of power by fitting a supercharger, made it into a great little Q car and could seriusly scare lots of cars! Only place I didnt like driving it was on motorway near artic lorries as it felt very small. I like the look of the new shape one as well.

adam- we've got some ohlins coilovers on our mx5 (1.6) and it transforms the car into a real go kart! sticky tyres and those shocks turn it into a hoot on trackdays, no real straightline speed but will outpace a lot of faster cars thro bends!
great fun in the wet or dry!
