What's the fastest normal car you've ever been in?
I've decided to get rid of the Scoob after taking a ride in my mates 300bhp modified WRX which didn't feel quick - it was too effortless, it didn't push you into your seat - there was no sense of drama...
I'm looking for something with good acceleration (not interested in top end) that maybe even feels quicker than it actually is. Want something small and light so I guess I'm looking for something old Skool - very tempted by a R5 but don't fancy the dubious reliability.
FWIW the most dramatic car I've ever been in (not necessarily the fastest, but most impressive) was a lightly tuned Charade Turbo (not the GTti). I'm guessing the boost was wound up, as the engine popped a few weeks later...
If I can't find anything more suitable, I may have to get another 205 gti...What are 106GTIs like? I know they are basically a VTS, but do they feel quick and go-cart like??
God, so many cars to think about

Caterham's and the like tend to feel rapid - having had a passenger ride in a 6 speed track-prepared Superlight R (feels even more rapid than it is due to very close ratio gears), and driven a few similar things up to 300bhp/tonne or so. Whether you call that a "normal" car is up to you!

a mate of mine who used to drink in my pub had a road legal metro 6r4, 420bhp, four wheel drive, 18's, topped out at 105mph, would think very low 3's to 60.
this was a proper car, never been in anything that could touch it, he no longer has it, he s got a 600bhp hennesey viper in black, never ever got so much attention in a car.

What about MK1 Golfs with bigger engines?
By 'normal' I meant small hatchback. Pulsar's whilst undeniably quick, don't feel it as standard...
I'm thinking something obscure and Japanese?

Caterhams appeal, but more so as a kit car project with my old man in a few years

Did you inadvertantly add a zero to your budget?

What's the fastest normal car you've ever been in?
Was in my bosses Audi S8 the other day at 155mph on the M1.
fastest ive ever been.
However, note the trip computer was reading 3.8mpg whilst accelerating from 100 - 155. Bit pricey to run, but going for about 15k these days, for a 4.2 V8, quattro drivetrain, and cabin like a Jag.

A work collegue has a Dax Rush 4.0 litre V8.
Very impractical, but an absolute rocketship (like 0-100 in 8.5)
He paid 10k for it a couple of years ago and it is wider and turns heads more than any Westie/Caterham.

It's all crap. gtt's are perfectly reliable when you look after them. I've owned one of mine for over 5 years, used it nearly every day and the only time it's ever not made it home is when the clutch cable snapped. I also co-own a gtt cup car that is used and abused at track days. The only problems with that being a knackard fuel pump and a split oil return pipe

TVR tuscan with a nutty driver on a slightly wet B road.I know its fast but it actually felt faster than it is (if that makes sense),and it looks good too.
Been in a caterham around a track as a passenger which was scary but the TVR just took the p1ss.Not sure how much they go for though......
