Nearly fell off my chair when I was told £250 for an oil change service. Any independent specialists recommended in the Herts area?

£150-£200 for an oil service isnt uncommon- but thats 15K worth of driving so cheap compared to a scoob..

530D - it's not so much that it's £250, more that they said the oil alone is £80 + VAT!

I dont know any indys in Herts, have a quick read of a BMW mag in smiths(most of them have an indy directory)

£250 over 18months and 15K miles....works out pretty good compared to a scoobs 6month/6K

Sure the labour is a rip off, and the oils is a bit pricey (longlife BMW spec synthetic oil - do not confuse with what you can buy in Halfrauds).

So if you go elsewhere make sure they use the same spec oil...as that is the key to the long service interval. Using a cheaper (non BMW spec) oil will mean you will have to change it more often - so you'll have to ignore the service indicator regarding oil changes and revert to traditional fixed time/mileage oil changes.

he charges me £125 for a FULL and i mean FULL service!!!

i've got loads of other good info about these people (and how they saved me £££'s compares to BM dealer up the road!!!

If you object to the cost of the oil, supply it yourself. It will be easy to track down the approved oil, and should save you at least 50% on that cost alone.

I would guess that Castrol will supply an oil for BMW, seeing as they also supply the F1 team. Look in your car's manual, then just search the web to find who's oil meets the correct manufacturers spec.

Either Castrol RS or Mobil 1 is normally used by BMW dealers, in my experience.

I had my Mini Cooper S in for an oil change at about 3000 miles. I was shocked that the local dealer (BMW) charged me £21 only! Including a new filter. I had to double check they HAD done an oil change
