Another M3 thread!
Thinking about a change so I popped along to the local BMW garage on Saturday and took an E46 M3 out for a spin. Sounds cool, goes like a rocket, yes it's all true.
The question is - this was a manual, what's the SMG like? Are there any owners on here who could post their opinions on the pros and cons of each.
If the SMG is the one to get I'll have to sort out another test drive - oh well
Cheers

I prefer my SMG to the manual version but you'll probably have to drive it to make the choice.
For more info go over to http://www.bm3w.co.uk and do a search as it's been covered there loads of times.

Recommend speaking to people who've OWNED the things. I say this as it appears that when you try the SMG you think OMG, this is great, how cool etc. However a few months down the line when the novelty wears off will you still prefer it over the manual? So a test drive might not reveal all you need to know. Try the bmw site above and read the bad things as well as good to ascertain which is best for you.
Oh, and check that the left hand stalk moves up and down and makes a green light flash on the dashboard. This not working seems to be a common failure on most bmw's.

Now that I think about it - I don't actually remember indicating at all on the test drive. Maybe they are all disabled straight from the factory
I've just registered on bm3w.co.uk so I'll have a look there.
