I would go for the Toyota GT4. The 3S-GTE is a very strong engine and seems to take high mileages. The box and diffs seem to survive well too.
Mines a high mileage one and it starts first time, and runs well

legacy turbo is cheap and good, gtir will be very tatty for that price and stupid on fuel and spares, quadra turbo's are very rare and few come up for sale. 323 is good but again not that many around and they are 1600 turbo's I think. What about a panda 4x4 with an uno turbo motor in it!!!!!! proper street sleeper rocket.

A £1000 BC5/BF5 Legacy might have a good bit of life left in it; itd be foolish to assume that a £1000 RNN14 Pulsar'd be able to get out of the car park.....

Unless the bloke is very very desperate for cash, a £1200 Pulsar is going to be a money pit...you have been warned!!

However I think they would be more reliable than a pulsar/cherry GTir. Toyotas of that era seem to last well.
My STi would slaughter my GT4, but I love how my GT4 handles.

200sx's are great fun. I had one. S13 is the CA18DET engined one with pop up headlights ?
The valves can wear and i had to repair 5th but great fun. If you get axle tramp the rear subframe bushes can need replacing which Nissan don't sell but you can get aftermarket ones.
Have fun.

yep thats the one gary.As i said to the wife today ,owning a sportscar with pop-up headlights is something everyman should do at least once in there lifetime.I got it so cheap as the bloke reckons the rings need replacing but i might have a look at the valves aswell, cheers mate.
