Pokey luxo car around 6k tops?
Looking to chop in my GTR as its just pointless in south-east rush hour traffic I sit in with 17mpg, and replace it with a bike and cheaper commute motor. Use the bike as much as poss but still have the car there for when its minging
Anyone got any thoughts. As I said, something to do the commute in, thats got a few toys, bit of poke (not more than 7 sec 0-60) and a bit of luxo-ness?
Currently thinking along the lines of a E36 328i Sport.........
Cheers
Neil

Take a leaf out of FatherPierre's book and get a big 80s Merc -- he recently had a late 80s 420 S-class V8 saloon with ALL the toys, leather interior etc in VGC, full MBSH for around a grand.

There's always a few on eBay

You're selling mate ? What you need is a Supra
Can you stretch a bit further ? Take a look at the C36 AMG althought this probably wont help fuel consumption too much
What about a Lexus ? GS300 Sport maybe ?

Yes mate, gonna sell her. Don't want to but its the sensible option - and I'm not even 30 yet!!! (soon ) Off to Greece in a week but will prob have her for sale shortly after I get back........
Had a Supra Yeah I want something that will at least give me 25-30mpg. And not a fan of hoooj cars either, kinda 3 series size (though not necessarily 3 series!) is about right.........

Yeah, its a bit of a bummer. I don't need to sell it, but it is the sensible option. I never get to use the performance in the driving I do, and to just be sat in traffic in a car like that seem pointless. I'll probably regret doing it, but it does make more sense. Still, at least I can say I've done it!
LOL @ LCR - didn't realise they were 6k now I would have one, but its out of my bracket with what I'm wanting to do.
I've had a 306GTi-6, love them and could get a 99/00 car for 6k, but I've already had one I've also still got the 205 as a future classic so I already have a hatchback and was thinking of coupe/saloon type thing..... Though not neccesarilty ruling out a hatch!
6k only just gets a 1.8T A3, and aren't they a bit crap to drive?

Pick up a very nice Saab 9k Aero for about £3-3500 tops. 0-60 6.5secs /150mph bags of torque and 30+mpg(manual) and big fat comfy heated recaros:

I see you in a Rover 620 Turbo Neil! :P LOL
We'll have a whip round for the tartan rug!
On a more serious level - what about an older style Audi S4? What do they go for now?

To make it easy for you though i think you should stick to a coupe and something that matches power and torque. I have listed below my top 5 powerful coupe's. All of them under 10k, all around 200hp and all reasonably cheap to keep and still lots of fun.
Corrado Storm VR6
Audi S2
Alfa GTV6
BMW 328 Mtec coupe
Pug 406 Coupe

Right then
No Vauxhalls thanks
CE320/C280/E220 - too big and pimpin'
Prelude - not a fan of the look, always think old man too
S2 - too high mileage for my price range
Alfa - too unreliable, mate had one!
Don't fancy a Volvo - might be getting old but not that old
Vento/Passat/A4 - too boring!
Cossie - no way, absolutely minging interior.
Lexus - nice toys but dull as dishwater.
Whats a poss:
328i Coupe Sport
M3 3.0l
406 V6 Coupe
Celica GT4
Corrado Storm VR6
Accord/Integra Type R - though not sure I can be assed to rev the engine.
ST200
MX5 1.8iS Mk1 - and track it/supercharge it too
S14a 200SX
Why a 9000 over a 9-3 or are they crap, know nowt about Saabs!?!?!?!!

I know the E30 isn't on your list, but I used to run a E30 M3 as a daily driver. Not really the best car for the job. Lack of torque and long 1st gear means slow progress around town, LHD doesn't help and the Clutch is very heavy. However - i did enjoy driving the car in all conditions, although it didn't go over speed humps it was one hell of a car, and i lost no money on it. However it was a minter.

I only suggested the 9000 mate as I have just got my Aero so to me its still the new toy! They are also very tuneable, I wont go into this though as it was in my original thread link.
I'm sure the 9-3 and 9-5 Aeros are great too but I dont know much about them as they are a little out of my price bracket.

PS. OK, the LCR isn't 6K - what I meant was 6K + a few more £££

ST200 - gone too, its a bit too boring..........
At the moment the odds on favourite is the 200SX. Can pick up a 98/99 S/T plate Touring Spec S14a for around 4.5-5k with less than 50k on the clock, absolute bargain IMHO. I can also transfer my R34 GTR 18" alloys to it, my Blitz Boost controller and my Tein EDFC as its the same model the SX Super Street kit uses And should get 25-30mpg from it on the commute, unlike 16-17 in the GTR

Volvo S70R 250bhp alcantara and leather dual climate, electric seats, 0-60 6.8 155mph. Sounds fantastic LSD and TRACS. Fantastic mid range. Buy a run in one with 100k for 6k....Bob
