Default New Focus 2.0 Zetec TDCi - any opinions?

Hi all,

My partner are and I are looking for a sensible car to sit in the driveway next to my 205 Mi16 - can't fit a lot of baby stuff in the Pug!
Pretty certain we are going for the above with the climate pack and sports suspension - around £15000 OTR.
We're off for a test drive at the weekend, just wondered if any of you out there has had experiences with one?

The grin factor is a key element in a car for the 'better half' - her favourite car of the ones we've owned was our MY99 Scoob and she even 'gets' the 205 For this reason we've pretty much discounted a new Golf TDi as we can't stretch to the GT 140 version.

Tell us all you know

Driven the new Golf but a 1.9 not the 2.0TDi, it's much better than the old Golf but still not as good to drive as the new Focus.

I've driven the new VAG 2.0TDi in the Octavia and it feels much stronger than the Ford unit.

The Golf is far too expensive for what it is IMO.

If grin factor is all important then go for the Focus.

It may be worth checking out the Octavia first, should be able to haggle a 2.0TDi with DSG for under £16k

Cheers
Lee

My old man picked up his new 2 litre TDCi Focus last week. I took it out and to be honest it was'nt bad, compared to my CTR it was a bit on the soft side (even though he's got the Sports Suspension fitted) Lots of low down torque and pretty quiet compared to most oil burners. As for grin factor i'm not sure you'll get much of that, it gripped ok just seemed way too soft for the "sports suspension". Two other things i found annoying were, theres no foot rest next to the clutch pedal, so your left foot is forced to sit in the gap and constanly rubs against the left hand side of the clutch pedal (maybe i've just got big feet?) And the arm rest in between the front seats seemed to be positioned wrong, when it was down it knocks against your elbow when changing gear and when up looks plain ugly!
