Default MG ZT V8 ?!?!

Anyone fancy buying and MG or maybe a Rover !?!?

Cheap cars indeed, a saloon varient of the MG 260 is available at my local dealer for 20k. Still a lot of dosh, but i asume they would be desperate for business so go knows how low they will go ?!?

On the other end of the scale a 1.1 Rover 25 is £6000.

As yet i have seen nothing that is silly cheap, but there is time yet. Anyone else fancy buying one if they get cheap enough ?!?

You mean minus the 3 year warranty, lack of replacement parts for insurance purposes, servicing and the fact that every model looks like it should be driven with tweed jacket and flat cap ?

Apart from the above its worth a go.

Phone up some warranty companies. Ask them how much for a warranty for 3 years is on one of these.

Don't forget these companies generally only cover mechanical parts so duff trim or non working stereos etc. won't be covered. Nor will many wear/tear items, no matter how new. e.g. duff brake disks, even if brand new may not be covered.

Then work out if it's all worth the hassle if spare parts are easy to come by. Yes to many of the older ones, however as there aren't many ZT260's about, how much of a demand for bits will there really be? The price will reflect this.

So if it's cheap enough then go for it. I'd expect half price at least. MG ZT260 for under £15k and you might be talking, £20k no chance.

No it doesn't have warranty, but it can be can be bought from an inderpendant company. The parts are not rover made, and thus will go on being made, there are plenty of specialist Rover to service your car, and despite dealers loosing ROVER ? MG franchise i imagine they would like to retain their existing customers and will offer servicing. I know all about that image, but new cars for used money, will tempt many. My father in law said he would buy a 75 diesel estate if they get cheap enough !

I test drove an MG-ZT260 a while ago. Bloomin' glad I didn't buy as they depreciate heavily enough without the production company going down the khazi !

However, I really enjoyed it. Drove well, handled well, sounded GREAT. I would definitely have one, in fact I'm keeping one eye on Autotrader

I'm sure Andy M3 mentioned in another post: MG/Rover bit of a gamble, best avoided.

Wink

I was having a chat with the salesman at my local Mitsi dealer last weekend and apparently, some time prior to the demise of MG Rover, they took a two year old MGZ something or other (the big estate one) as part ex. At the time of the deal they valued it at 9-10k trade.

MG Rover goes **** up, deal is already in writing, car comes in part ex. and they get offered maximum 4.5k in the trade for it

Soooo.....if anyone wants it, I can sort some sort of deal out

Be really worth holding on I reckon, within 6 months, the bottom will totally drop out of the 2nd hand market IMO, you'll be able to pick up MG's dirt cheap. I'd have one of those V6's they sound wicked, and I hear they handle well on the track, but it would have to be silly cheap for me to consider!!

Cant see the V8's dropping that low that quick, they do have a following and they are pretty solid cars, well built and the mechanicals on the V8 are basically a very under stressed Mustang engine in its lowest state of tune, the gearbox is an off the shelf unit (Tremec I think), not sure about the back axle (poss BMW ?). There is no way they are worth 30 + grand but at 15 grand its a lot of performance.

Thery have a lot of scope for extra performance as most/all the tuning goodies produced for the Mustang will fit, They can be supercharged to 400 +
bhp for 5 grand and if you have the money the skys the limit.

As for the tweed cap thing, yes thats true for the 75 but the ZT looks very purposeful, perhaps tweed with a bit of leather and some studs, anyway, you lot worry to much about image, I would buy one in a flash if I had the money ( the fourteen grand), 260 bhp V8 RWD beast, or a Mini Cooper, hmmm.

Only downside is the crap fuel consumption.

My dad bought a year old ZT 190+ in X power Grey a few months back with 10,000 miles on it, a year old for 11 grand, that was even before the 'troubles', nice car, does sound nice and goes reasonably well, not ballistic but gutsy and refined. So it depreciated by 12/13 grand in the first year without Rover going under, cant imagine its lost much/anything since the collapse. Regardless of whats happened to Rover, the cars still do actually go, this one still looks good so I dont think you will have to pay people to take them away just yet.

If you want a cheap V8 then consider a Holden Monaro, there is a lovely one in the scoobynet classifieds.

I was looking at these too since they seem to be the topic of convo at the mo, 75 is cheaper than the ZT equivalent for a start. MG dealer told me that Rover have a fair few as ex fleet stock but dealers don't yet know when they can get hold of them, as for new good luck since they are a low volume model and no longer being made you'll have to find a dealer that still has stock. I've been looking at the ZS 180 which despite the FWD isnt too bad and prices are low enough to pick up a low milage fully loaded model for silly money and im sure that 2.5 V6 could be tuned up to 200bhp, for example 2002 ZS 180 19000 miles air con leather all the electric goodies £5600.

Guy on another forum says his boss walked into a Rover dealer and offered them 10k for a 19k MGTF.

They took it, he picks it up next week.

Hmm, yeah right, sure it will lose money but 15 grand, get real, if you advertised one for ten grand the phone would be red hot, realistically they are worth about 15 grand for a nearly new one.
