Which ~£20k Spacious Co Car - 35+MPG
Hi All
My mate's dad is after some recommendations of comfy, quiet cruisers to do 27k miles/yr in over a 3yr lease through his work. Preferably with reasonable pace, say under 10s to 60. He'll go for a diesel if the economy offsets the extra cost per month (due to higher purchase price) on the lease. The lease quotes are a bit unpredictable, but say a £20k budget.
Current favourites in order are:
Mazda 6 (141ps 2.0MZR petrol or 136ps 2.0MZR-CD diesel)
Accord (140ps 2.2 i-CTDi or 155ps 2.0 i-VTEC)
Octavia (150bhp 2.0 FSI or 140bhp 2.0 TDI probably with DSG - this any good?)
I'm trying to get him to look at a Legacy too - would the 2.0/2.5 get close to 35mpg combined? How do these compare to the above?

There's also the all-new Passat model which comes to the UK in the summer -- early tests rate it higher than the new Accord, which seems to be the current benchmark in the class. A recent back-to-back test in AutoExpress said it was a smoother ride and just as good in handling as the Honda.
IIRC the 140bhp TDi model will retail at about £18,500, and it's EEC IV compliant so its low on co. car tax too.

If you want spacious and comfy look no further than the Skoda Superb, which my two of my friends run. 1.9TDI 130 Comfort, has the pace, economy, space and comfort he'll need. And its OTR for under £18k.....
