Question Value of a Land Rover.....

I am after some advice....!

A good friend of mine has recently suffered a stoke, and then to add to the problems faced by his famaily, his Land Rover was stolen!

As he is unable to communicate that well at the moment, his family have asked me whether the £1500 offered by the ins company sounds OK.

I have no idea at all so after any Land Rover experts to give an opinion.

Land Rover Discovery 1988 136,000 miles 2.5 Diesel in Blue.

Thanking in advance.

Search autotrader for it? See what prices it comes up with.

From all I've heard about early Discos, he's lucky to get more than scrap value for it (But I Know Nothing)

Thanks, but I couldn't find anything like it. They were all newer, which confirms what you are saying about scrap value of the early models!

Thanks.

Value seems about right to me for the age and mileage. I'd presume the body would be getting quite tatty at that age (the Aluminium dissolves like it was in an acid bath on these things) and the chassis/mechanicals would be too, so it seems quite reflective of what it is worth.

I dont imagine it will be a disco on an 88 E plate to be honest. a defender of that age and the description you have given will usually fetch around £1500 it seems quite a fair price, however its always worth saying you believe its worth more, as the first offer is usually lower than what they expect the value to be, (they are there to make money ) then take there second offer.

hope that helps?

Brendan, AFAIK, it's the catalytic reaction when the Ali body meets steel chassis areas.

Mate of mine works in a LR bodyshop & he says there should be pads between the areas of dissimilar metal; however, half the time they're either not there, or misaligned from new in the factory!

Earliest Discoverys where on an H plate? - Struggling to remember back that far off the top of my head. Probably wont be called a Defender either on badges, it'll just be a 90 or 110 I think (name didnt come along till after that point I dont think)

We had a 110 from 1985- had to scrap it 2 years ago because literally every piece of aluminum and steel on it had some form of heavy corrosion, from the doors through to the inner wings out to the chassis. -The aluminum just goes to a powdery white substance wherever it meets the steel interfaces, which theres loads of.

That's what I thought - I'm sure the disco came out in '89. That said, the very early discoveries are around that sort of price at the moment - I've certainly seen V8 ones in that region anyway. That was the right engine as well though - it was at that point, a 200Tdi.

Could be a Land Rover 110 or a 90 though. The 'Defender' ones didn't come out until later on. If so, it could be worth slightly more, depending on condition. Either way, it may still be going strong, although I don't think that price'll be miles out

After more digging, can confirm that it was a 110!
Thanks for you replies.
