Mitsubishi Legnum VR4
Have been looking for what might replace my second classic Scooby and had a shortlist including a Legacy B4 (saloon or estate) but there is a problem with new imports as there appears to no model report.
So I wondered about a Legnum VR4 - does anyone have any knowledge or experience?

There have been quite a few posts in the past on the legnum / galant VR4s - do a search. The one I drove was disappointing - not as fast as it should have been, felt like a big sloppy chassis, high corner speeds entirely down to AYC; most on here tell me I must have driven a bad one.

I'll second that last comment, I forgot about the horrible gearbox! Accepting it could well have been a bad example I drove, I still think the tiptronic auto was really unpleasant; any manual box would be an improvement

Indeed I do Paul.
Good choice, ideal replacement for a classic - that's what I did. initially wanted something a little bigger than my wagon, that looked good, was as fast or faster, but a little less nickable/recognisable. The VR4 fulfills all those criteria.
It's the best looking estate you can buy IMO and will carry a wardrobe at 160 mph , mine is quicker than my old Scooby - i'm probably running a little over 300 BHP with minor mods, and absolutely no-one knows what it is - the amount of shocked faces I have had from drivers of very quick cars seeing an estate whip them is untrue.
Don't be put off on above comments about the auto - I always hated autos, but this is a good 'un - the INVECS II, which is Porsche developed, learns your driving style amaxingly, and will drive like you would with a manual almost. Plus, the tiptronic mode is there if you want a bit more involvement and are pushing it. The only thing I miss is setting up for corners heal and toeing/double de-clutching - but i'll get over it.
The handling is very good, and not just down to the AYC - it's set up very well, after all Ralliart know what they are doing.
Have a look at Club VR4 - and take one out for a drive - you will never look back. Try and get a genuine Ralliart one, they are more sought after and rarer, and most dealers will service them (so most will have FSH having been imported officially by Mitsubishi from new), as opposed to the imports (Legnums) which a lot of dealers will not touch.
You'll not regret it - I loved my Scooby, but this is a totally different animal - better build (the doors sound great when you shut them), more refined, all the mod cons, and i've never seen a chav in one - in fact in 4 months of ownership, i've only seen one other one!
Good Luck with your search - your only problem is good ones are like rocking horse poo

You'll find Legnums anywhere from £5k, for older 96 models.
A decent late, post-1999/2000 Ralliart model will be anywhere from £10-£15k.
IMO, for what it is, the only thing that compares, and probably shades it in most areas, is an RS6 Avant - though for £30k+, so it should

Sulli is right, except dealers will happily service any imports as well, not just Ralliart UK-supplied cars. I've owned Subarus (six, including a twin-turbo Legacy) and I'm on my second VR-4. It's the dealer servicing and support that puts the Mitsubishi above the Subaru ...

My experience with Mitsubishi dealers so far has been pretty poor - Subaru were always very good.
And my dealer wil not touch grey imports, nor will a few others - I know this may be illegal, but that's the attitude of a few at the moment.

Just had a quote for insurance seems they want to charge more for the VR4 than what I am paying on the EVO how does that work when it's only a £15k car and less powerful.
Her reason was the spare parts availablity and history of stolen cars.
Does make you wonder about insurance companies.
Still not found or driven a VR4 may not like it.

I did find when I was interested that they were expensive to insure - with a few people, nearly double the cost of a standard bugeye WRX . Several companies refused to accept that a Ralliart one was a UK and still wanted to charge Jap import rates - don't know if that's still the case? I'm sure the owners / VR4 forum regulars will be able to point you at more reasonable companies! They aren't easy to find, I only tracked one down in dealers in Southern England when I wanted a drive in one.

thought i'd add my bit
I went from a scoob to the galant vr4 saloon auto
at first was a bit dissapointed, mainly due to the turbo thrust not being the same as the scoob
after time i loved it, drove it to France, cost a bomb in fuel but it was a really good car, had it a couple of years, never broke but If it was now I'd got for the B4 and give that a go or if you could get one in the UK an Alfa 166 2.4TD and chip it to over 200bhp but a B4 for me, think the look of a VR4 standard is a bit poor, but a good car and i missed mine after getting rid, not getting anywhere ere am i

Insurance costs me £700, f/comp with business use. 32 yrs old, full NCB, 4 points - exhaust mods included at no extra charge
Thats a couple of hundred more than my renewal would've been on my UK Scoob.
One thing - if fuel consumption is an issue to you, don't buy one.
