Racing Puma
Looking for opinions on the Racing Puma as an everyday proposition? I know the ride is harsh, but apart from that Id have thought it would be reasonable (by scooby standards) to maintain and relatively good on fuel when on the motorway.
What about longevity of the 'tuned' engine tho'? Reckon it could cope with 100k if well maintained?
Anyone with any knowldege of no. 287 - W***AVW???

I've seen every one ever built (built about 300 yds from where i'm sitting now) and driven a couple and they are great to drive and look amazing. Rust, rust and more rust though on the non standard panels (e.g. arches), not that well made either. I'd still have one though.

Put up a post on Pumapeople (my 2nd mention of this week for them ) asking if anyone knows about it, they seem to know about the history of every FRP on the road!

i think they look fantastic but are very under powered, should have had at least 200bhp.
is there a tuning option for more power apart from transplanting a focus rs engine into them(that should have been in there in the first place)???

it was built to gain some kudos from the S1600 rally cars, main reason they made it 1600..............have worked on and driven a couple and seem quite canny for what they are, just appear overpriced!!

Used to own one last year. Great cars, I didn't find it underpowered. It's all about handling and fun factor with them really. It's a 1.7 engine, had a 1.6!
Rust is only a problem on neglected cars, or ones which have had dodgy repairs. Mine was fine when I sold it last year.
Drive one and see what you think. Excellent exhaust note as standard, great seats, excellent handling and feedback. One of the most fun cars I've had.
Watch out for front discs/pads and caliper overhaul as they are all expensive.
It's not suited to motorway work though, as they are very loud even with the standard exhaust on, which is made by janspeed. Plus the gearing. I wouldn't buy one if you do regular motorway journeys.

Pumapeople is down for maintenance til Monday...arrrghhh! - My usual luck...
Heard about the front calipers and discs....alcon have a lot to answer for....who wants to stop quickly anyway!
When we say noisy on the motorway...do we mean like a Classic Scooby noisy, 205gti noisy, mk1 MR2 noisy or MG midget noisy? In this order I have lived with all but the last one...though I did manage for 3 weeks, happily becoming a trifle deaf near the end.
