Thumbs up max bhp nissan pulsar

Hello people, today i met a new lad that started with our company ,he owns a nissan pulsar (import)2l turbo he recons it's running around 400 bhp and says he eats scoobys i own a type r.

i seriously think this lad needs to take a cold shower then get in a scooby to realise the true potential of these wonderful machines.

am i being a bit pretensious or does he need to grow up and face reality that we drive the superior machine , only the serious may reply

He took the car to santa pod last year and recons he did a quarter mile in 10 2 sec can this really be true.

regards to all who reply lee.

I have a soft spot for the nissan turbo's as my mate is a 200sx owner (s13 and 14a)

the pulsar GTIR has a 2.0Turbo engine that i think is around 200 horses as standard (i could be wrong tho as they may be a bit more powerful) They are known for having a weak bottom end that was corrected when the 200sx S14 came out and inheritted the 2.0 over the 1.8 engine.

they are tuneable cars, just like most turbo's are, I mean, people on here are running over 500 horses from a 2.0turbo subaru lump, why can't this be achieved with a Nissan engine?

he could well be yanking your chain, but it's definately do-able, plus, like the scoob, they are permanant AWD and handle pretty well

James

on one of the early 5th gear episodes they had one on running about 400bhp that they put against a dodge viper. To say the least the pulsar owned the viper

Hi james,he's spent thousands on it, new crank, very big intercooler, full 4pot brembo brakes engine rebuild costing £3500 new pistons as he developed piston slap.

it's all well and good spending all this money modifing his car but he seems to have a lot of problems trying to balance things out if you know what i mean.

he also mentioned in conversasion today that he runs about 2 bar boost is this possible.

If it genuinely does a 10.2 1/4, it will comfortably "eat scoobies" - I don't know of any scoobs in this country that can beat that (Andy F has got very close, maybe one or two others)

The GTiR's are (I believe) about as tunable as scoobs, also 2L turbo and 4wd so they launch at least as well and I think are a bit lighter. If he has got 400bhp which is entirely feasible, he will beat most scoobs with less than that. Whilst a 10.2 1/4 mile in a suitably modded GTiR is possible, I'd expect it to need more than 400bhp to do that time.

And seeing as you asked, with phrases like this, yes you are being pretentious

He said he only paid £5200 for the car 18 mths ago,and is looking to sell for £4000 is this a reasonable asking price for a car that is nearly 14 years old.

10.2 is a dream as saw a 660bhp esc coss run 10.34 as it's best time at crail last year and bet the escort doesn't weigh that much more!

Even so, you'd expect a terminal around 140 for a 10.2. Andy F's run was IIRC a 10.5 at 136, the Pulsar will not be that much quicker off the line than him. 117 terminal and 400bhp probably do stack up, and would I'd guess put him in the high 11s or maybe 12.0 second quarter region rather than 10.2 IMHO. Still enough to beat most scoobs.

A pal of mine has a GTiR that he races, i know nothing more about it other than it is close to 600hp.

It is up on the ramps for all to see at his work place, Porsche delaership and anyone in the Newcastle area can pop in and see it.

Its a mess if you ask me but hey!! it runs and he does pretty well when he races.

Not street racing, track, Croft etc.

I shouldnt have posted i dont know too much about it really!! lol.

There are no known 10sec Gtirs in this country at the moment. There's a handful that may do it this year. There was a shootout yesterday and unfortunately the fastest one only managed an 11.25 at 129mph (slower than his 11.09 at totb3)

What is so good about your Type R, that you find it unthinkable that a Pulsar could beat it? What spec (power/times) is it?

Gtir can do 12s 1/4s with as little as 250bhp and should be able to do 11s with 350bhp, so they can be a fast little (well 1250kg) car.

PS where you from Lee. I do know of a Gtir that posted a 10.2 on the timing board at Santa Pod this year, but it was put down to a timing error. If it's the same guy, I reckon his car has a good 380bhp.

Pulsar's are very quick cars believe me,I know at least 5 or 6 owners of these cars and they can really shift
Awesome car Not to be underestimated, type R will give it a good run but a 1bar pulsar will be very hard to pass with a standard type R!

Yes he was, but he got beaten on times at every point down the track by a car with a good 80 or so bhp less. So don't underestimate the Gtir

Edited to add, you don't normally run 0.7bar as your low boost if you can run 2bar, I'd expect 1-1.2bar at least, maybe he is full of it.??

Where's Skiddus.... Or Ginga...

Power for power Scoobs tend to be slightly quicker..(in gear acceleration) probably down to the Torque difference that usually goes in the scoobs favour. Both cars have good and bad points...

I have good experience of both cars, they both seem to grip the same when launching, they both have ****e 3rd gears, the scoob handles better and brakes are better in std form, the pulsar will take high speeds for longer without getting upset. GTIR's tend to pull better 1/4 times for the same power (maybe gearing?)

600hp? Jason's?

Both cars are equally tunable IMHO..

Rob.

Carl2, I was refering to the original poster of this threads mate with a 400bhp 10.2 sec car for £4k, not doubting a genuine cars ability just saying I'd buy it for £4k

I was at Brunters Yesterday & saw these guys, quick off the line ,the car above was probably the one that did 0-60 3.7 & 0-100 7.3 ish , i Know cos i asked.
Think 160 is out of reach though.
Heard them say over 450brake for some of them.

Madrod, Yes that was Jasons Gants fastest times from yesterday (11.09 at totb3) one of the guys did reach 160mph and he wasn't the most powerful, probably just the most *****

Jamsewrx, so was I origionally, but then realised it might be a different person. The confusion came from the 10.057 guy initially reporting a 10.2 1/4mile time.
10.2 on 400bhp just ain't gonna happen with a Gtir
