Default Bargain 500SE

I love ebay!!

I've just bought a 1984 Merc 500SE, 126k on the clock with 9 months' MOT, a bit rough but a runner and only needing a couple of brake pads replacing and a service for:

£107

It's even got a bit of tax left on it LOL.

A nice bit of almost free V8 motoring

I'll post some pics when I've picked her up.

The ad only had a pic of a scabby arch and its front end.

It was one of those very badly advertised ebay cars you get now and then. He ended it on a Sunday afternoon when no one is on ebay and only highlighted its bad bits (needing front pads and a set of ignition leads.)

It'll do 25ish on a run, no worse than my current 300SE or my XJ6

He reckoned he came, knocked on my door and I didn't live there! I'd hardly sell a car on ebay and then not answer the door?

I waited in all day for him and left him a neg for not showing up.

Some people are just plain strange.

There's a guy been trying to sell a 500SEL round the corner from the out-laws for about 2 months, £500 with T&T. I reckon he'll take £300 cash and it's got some pimp-tastic gold BBS cross spoke alloys on it and chrome arches. Cheap as chips

Only if you want the car mint - which I don't

Just going to have a run about in it for a bit then sell it on. At a profit, of course

I picked it up yesterday and it's not bad at all. It's not misfiring at all, it just runs a bit rough on tickover when cold.

Brakes are ok too.

She like a drink though, does she ever!

Always wanted one of these since Quentin Willson featured them years ago - think he bought an 87 500SE at the time - looked gorgeous.

Not bad for £107

Mine's not quite 'gorgeous'

It's seen better days but the engine and running gear seem pretty good.

And the noise the engine makes when you hit the loud peddle and the kick in the back is worth the cash

I've averaged 17mpg from the 102 miles I've done in it - 89miles of that was on the motorway with the cruise control set at 80mph. Even in an old shed is it very easy to hit speeds that would put your licence at risk without realising it!
