Default EU import warranty problem - Toyota

Hello

We bought a Toyota Yaris through Litchfield Imports just under 3 years ago. The car was sourced from Denmark. It was supplied with a full EU-wide 3 year manufacturers warranty.

The car has been in about 4 times and had warranty work done with no problems in this time. We took the car to the same dealer about 4 weeks ago as the bodywork is starting to rust around the rear tailgate. The engineer took some photos and sent the details to Toyota UK to investigate. The rear tailgate was a Toyota part (TTE) and fitted by the same dealer just after we got the car and it turns out that however it was fitted, it has rubbed on the bodwork and caused the rusting.

We have used the same dealer all along, and they have said that becuase this is bodywork, it is not covered under the warranty as its an EU import. They also denied ever fitting the spoiler.

Does anyone know if they are right, or are they trying to get out of paying for it ? They said that as all the other problems were through the servicing department, they picked up the cost, but bodywork problems go to Toyota GB and they are the ones that have said its not covered.

Even if thats the case, the dealer is in the wrong for not fitting the spoiler correctly, but i have to prove they fitted it.

You don't have an invoice from the dealer who fitted the spoiler? If not, try contacting Litchfields, and ask them what they can do to help you. Failing that, contact Toyota direct, their warranty is the stuff of legend generally... You may get nowhere if you can't prove who was responsible for fitting the spoiler though. Given that it seems this is the source of the problem, proving who fitted it is a necessity.
