Stag, TR6 or Spitfire?
Looking for one of the above as a fun car. Always loved the TR6 and Stag but decent ones seem in short supply. Spitfire would do if the others are a no go. Any ideas/opinions on these?

spitfire is too hairdresser style.........and yes i had one for 3 months many many years ago
I would go for a TR6 and try to make sure its got the proper engine in it rather than converted to one out of the stag.

I would hang on and wait to get hold of a TR6. Not the american version though. My dad used to have some of the earlier TR's, and one day I've always fancied a TR5. And the TR6 will still do the quarter mile in a smidge over 16 seconds, as fast as many of todays hot hatches
Quote from Autocar 17 April 1969 about the TR6…."It is very much a masculine machine, calling for beefy muscles, bold decisions, and even ruthlessness on occasion. It could be dubbed the last real sports car……."

The Stag engine is an iron-blocked ally-headed 3 litre V8 - 150 hp as standard. Never used in any other car.
Here's my long term restoration (started 1989, and there's a reasonable chance I'm going to have a go at starting the engine today - I'm quite apprehensive )...
...every part of the shell (inside, outside, boot, engine bay and underneath) has been back to bare metal
...new wings, sills, front valence etc
...and everything else, except the gearbox and overdrive, has been taken apart to the last nut and bolt and refurbed as necessary
...and I've done it all, except the external final paint job

...and an engine bay pic from last week

Right, I'm off of to the garage

Personally, I'd opt for a well sorted Stag, that's had the cooling system mods or the last-of-line engines.
TR6's seem to fetch silly money - with many "immaculate" or "prestine" examples being just well painted shells full of filler. Not to say the Stags aren't the same...but at least they are more refelctive of value

I'd go for the stag, lovely sounding cars. Most of them have had extensive work done on their engines now mainly due to over heating. It's not unusual to find people have fitted an extra cooling fan.
Here's my Dads one

I had a TR6 a few years ago. It was a 1972 - UK 150bhp PI in red. To me thats the best combination. I loved it - easily keeps up with modern traffic and can still outpace a few modern cars. Great fun.

Changed the 'points' today but it won't run when re-assembled - now needs a new diaphragm since the old one's gone a bit stiff after nearly 16 years of being unused and being stored in the dry
Oh well, another week won't make a lot of difference
