Question TVR Tamora

Anyone know much about these

I've seen the Jeremy Clarkson vid where one wastes a Boxster S but anyone on here either have one or have an opinion?

Matt

P.S Please not just just the normal TVR reliability tales, unless there true

Pistonheads would be a good start. Their Tamora discussion forum is here:

Also the TVR Car Club at http://www.tvr-car-club.co.uk/

The Tamora and T350C are supposed to be the sweetest-handling TVRs, but go into it with your eyes open. The general consensus is that the Speed 6 engine problems have been solved, and as I guess all Tamoras will have 2003-spec engines then you should be OK.

OTOH I have heard of some newer ones going "pop" and apparently Nikolai has ceased the factory's goodwill gesture rebuilds, so you may need a warranty or slush fund to cover it.

Seem to be some good prices on Tamoras now -- some for well under £30k.

Respond to Nickolai's gesture by buying a Porsche, love TVR's but engines are not a consumable item you should have to budget for.

Shocking how the manu warranty is for only 12 months

Have downloaded the group test

TVR Tamora
Porsche Boxster S
Merc SLK 32 AMG
BMW M Roadster

and the Porsche wins overall but it says that the TVR is second and only loses to the Porker due to it being a better 'daily driver' but I don't want a sensible car so this hasn't put me off either

Of the lot, I think I'd go for the Tamora. I guess you want a convertible, but personally I prefer the look of the T350C/T350T.

Make sure your AA membership is up to date! It's a handbuilt car, so there is a variation in quality. If you get a good one, you'll be fine. But if you get a bad one, prepare to become intimate with the factory.

carl,

Yeah it must be a convertable - love the T350 too but I want full roof down not just the targa top.

As you say it's a handbuilt car so that speaks for itself really. Fingers crossed I would get a 'good one' IF I decide to go for one but at the mo its still top of the list!

Please go for it!

SP6 engine failures have been at the same level as other well known sports car makers in proportion..guess the issue may have been the way in wich they were dealt with. Seems to be changing with smolenski though.

Buy fromm a main dealer or www.jamesagger.com who is a really well regarded independant.

Oh and get on Pistonheads and www.tvrcc.com. Invaluable resources.

Good luck

J

PS for gods sake go for a loud colour - they ARE a loud car. I did - Bright pearl yellow!

I agree with JayBee, if your going to get a TVR get a bold/loud/unique colour because you will stand out from the crowd. People will hear you coming before they see you.

I've got a T350c on order from TMS and it's going to be Sunset Pearl yellow with dark navy stripes (alla Ford GT), window tints, sports exhaust, anthracite wheels. I have seen the car minus the stripes and it looks the dogs danglies.

What I have discovered is that when you spec. a new one the sky's the limit. It's not like you have a limited range of standard colours to choose from, you can have just about anything you want, and theres a huge range of interior combinations too. This has the posibility to make your car very individual/unique, look around at used TVR's and how often do you see two the same?

I can highly recommend TMS, they are very enthusiastic, know what they are talking about and their service so far has been superb. They always seem to have a large selection of used cars and if they haven't got what you want I'm sure they can find it.

Try thiat for Pic - Halcyon Midas Pearl - on our Chimaera 450.

Not a Tamora I am afraid - hoping to upgrade in the next 12 months if the money fairy is good to us!!

Saw a lovely yellow Tam in HL Gorner in Wigan on Saturday - take a look at the website - might b on there.

As to James Agger, I think he deals in used TVR's and comes well reccomeded. Not a new car merchant I dont think..

A gent called Rob Ingleby found and inspected ours for a small fee. That is another route to go if you are buying used.

What Are they like to drive...we had a test drive in one from Christopher Neils in Northwich and it was AWESOME. You HAVE to drive one! Closest I can sum up is if you took a lotus Elise, made a bit more comfy, and then force fed it on steroids.....LOTS OF STERIODS! VERY VERY VERY quick and ....it Stops.....quickly....on the proverbial penny. Great brakes. Good on the twities as well

Sorry, rambled on long enough. Join the TVRCC club - chat to the members, go to a local meet, get on the TVRCC website and chat on pistonheads - Oh and try one!

I get a 403 error on that page. What colour is Halcyon Midas? My Cerb is Halcyon Hebrides (otherwise known as black with a few green sparkly bits in).
