Question What next ?

Currently do c. 25-30k miles pa & have run an Impreza for the last 4 years, (which has now more than paid for itself & has been put it out to stud / for use as a toy.)
Given the amount of miles I do & that the two complaints I had with the Impreza were tank size (filling up almost every other day) and the level refinement, I bought a 528i se auto. (I figured that I shoudn't replicate the Impreza otherwise there was no point keeping it, and if you want a motorway sofa, then get the comfiest.)
The Beemer is a fantastic car, but I'm left cold by it, I'm coming back round to the school of thought that if I spend a lot of driving, then I ought to enjoy it.

Considerations:
Fuel: Fully expensed, but I'd like to see >22mpg.
Servicing: Quite happy to do myself
Age: Not really an issue, but should clearly be dependable
Dosh: <£8k
Spec: Must have air / climate, and be comfier than the Impreza.
Style: Would prefer a load lugger / Scooby tow car , but would look at anything exciting !

Options:
Volvo T5 /T5R estate (+grunt, - vulva)
BMW M5 touring (+M5, - lhd)
Legacy GTB / RSK (Scooby duplication)
944S2 (+always liked them - age, no air con ?)
Alfa (GTV/156/166) (+always liked them, - reliability)
Galant V6 sport estate (+looks, - dull drive ?)
+ flog the Impreza aswell & raise the budget to £12k.
+ whatever you can think of !!!!!

So, what next ?

What about an M3? I just bought a 94 'M' M3 coupe (the 3.0, not the 3.2 Evolution) for £7k

Volvo T4CD - leather and all the other bits, seats are the same as T5 - armchair comfort! Hook up a boost controller running a safe 1.1 bar and you are looking at a very good mile muncher (albeit with a hunger for front rubber).

Saloon M3 - would deffo be worth a look.
Not too keen on the small Volvo - if wanted a Volvo, it'd have to be a big one !

Keep 'em coming
