Default Supra MKIV Running Costs

Hi Everyone,

I would like to ask whether someone could provide me with an overview of the running costs for a Supra MKIV?

What are the servicing intervals?
I'm on mainland Europe, so what does Toyota charge for the services?
What kind of fuel consumption can I expect?
How much wear and tear is there (tyres, brakes), assuming i drive it swiftly, but not insanely?
How realiable are the cars? I would be looking at something with roughly 40,000 miles on the clock.

Oh and last but not least, what would stage one tuning (just a remap, and facilitated breathing) provide me with in terms of power gains?
Thanks in advance,

Kind regards,

-B.

Thumbs up

Supras are one of the most relaible cars available. The engines are said to be over engineered and are easily able to take their modest power output effortlessly. A Stage 1 tune (zorst, filters and remap) will see about 400 bhp normally.

Running costs are low in terms of servicing, at the very least cheaper than a Scoob. Although official service intervals are 10k miles, it is advisable to at least change the oil every 3-4K on any turbocharged car.

Parts are the only expensive cost, should anything go wrong, but this is unlikely if the car is/has been loooked after.

Fuel consumption is low, about 20mpg is average on a TT.

Depending on how you drive, rear tyres last around 10-15k miles. Most ppl upgrade to 18 or 19" wheels which makes tyres more expensive.

One thing to watch out for is the Supra's behaviour in the wet. The traction control fitted it terrible and is often ugraded to a Racelogic unit for better traction.

In terms of tuning potential per pound, the Supra is King of tuneable cars. Even more than the mythical Skyline, the Supra engine is able to withstand a high state of tune without going internal and seems to just go on and on.

A very good car, and I'm even considering another myself.

Spot on LC !

I have a modified TT, and I can't praise the Racelogic TC enough - this should be the FIRST mod you do to a Supra, seriously.
I can now power off of roundabouts IN THE WET, and with circa. 400bhp on the rear wheels, it's worth its weight in gold.

I worked out my MPG last week, and I'm afraid I get nearer to 15mpg - but that's due to the mods. They are massively reliable, and are very strong too. (There are american cars with over 800hp on standard internals ! But that's american hp )

All I can say to LC is go for it mate, they are great cars

All the best

Cheers Matt, yeah I had a 1997 6spd VVTI a few years back and I enjoyed it. Only got rid of it cos I get itchy feet and change my cars every year or so. Sold my second Evo VI in July and bought an M3 cab which I am bored of already, so I am considering another VVTI 6spd.

Only thing is, I'm not sure if a model report is available for the VVTI's yet. Any idea??

Thank you very much gentlemen, I dare say that the feedback is fairly positive :-)

Muffleman, I'm intersted in a TT - if you're gonna bother doing something you might aswell do it right... I'll take you op on your offer and take a peek around www.mkivsupra.net.

Could anyone provide me with a gross estimate of what the service costs (every 10k miles, if I understood correctly).

depends on the service - anything from 120 to 300-350 for routine at a specialist, not including any bits that may need replacing.

Either way, servicing is cheaper than my old MY99 Impreza...........
