So who's had a Capri then?
Just interested.
Seems like Impreza's are becoming the new Capri (ie every Gary in the world aspires to own one for burning rubber on a Saturday night), so wondering who's had experience of the one and only original Cortina in a party frock?
Blew the cobwebs off mine last night. (2.8i) A quick flirt down the lane, warmed up the oil and brakes, and then back in the Carcoon, tucked up for winter, ready for another 20 or so miles next year. Still sounds lovely after all these years.
What's happened to 'em all? Can they be called a "classic" yet?
By the way, fully expecting a flaming here for being a Capri owner. Bring it on!! Those who didn't like Capri's were generally the ones who couldn't drive anyway.

My dad has one: a 2 litre Lazer. Still looks great, but drives.....well, let's just say it drives! It is in remarkably good condition though, and has been utterly - and I do mean utterly- reliable. Remarkable for a Ford of it's age. Respect!
If you want a suggestion for the cheapest and most effective mod to make a
scooby feel even faster, go and take one of these for a spin!
Despite this, I still have a soft spot for it. There isn't much like it today, the closest is a Toyota Celica I guess!
Best.

I've had 2 Capri's, the first 1 was a MK1 3000E with a 3.1 engine and i was only 18 at the time , loved that car and it taught me what oversteer was , the second one was a MK2 3.0 Ghia, that car was completely different from my MK1 as it had power steering and was a auto but still a fun car, saw on 5th gear the other week that good examples are becoming classics with prices of around £10000!!!

I’ve had three 2.8i’s and one Tickford that is still in the garage, but it has not been for run for the best part of ten years! (engine needs a bit of work), must get round to doing it. The Tickford has equal length headers from the V6 to the turbo just like the JDM Blobeye STI.
Some photos of photos hence poor quality.
Better Tickford photos here:

Yep, I was offered a genuine 2.8i Auto years ago. Apparently only available as an expensive special order, certainly never appeared on the options list. Granada 'auto box used, and the chassis number will give the game away if its genuine factory. Only a handful were made by Ford themselves, I was told that most were ordered by disabled people.
I was keeping an eye on a mint, standard Mk3 3.0S on Ebay recently, identical to my dad's old car which he bought new in 1979 when I was a lad. I fancied a punt, but the auction was withdrawn at well over 6 grand and rocketing.
A mate used to have a mint, genuine Turbo Technics moons ago. The car was well sorted in the brake/suspension department with well over 220bhp (a lot when you are 21), but tempremental. He eventually let the MOT lapse and it quietly rotted away on his mums drive. He now drives a new 3 series, serves him bloody right.
I've had my Injection for nearly 10 years. For the first 2 years I used it, abused it, caned it, learned to REALLY drive in it, and eventually blew it up. I should have been sensible and scrapped it, but instead restored it to a better-than-new state, which took 7 years and produced a stack of bills that I have chosen not to add up. Too frightened to pop it sideways now in case I take the blips off the tyres.
Still fancy a turbo'ed 24v Cossie engined sleeper one day. Something to frighten Evo's on track days with.
Happy days.

I've done the 'Capri in a tree' thing, on the way to Alton Towers aquaplaned down a hill & came to rest with a tree embedded in the front!
Had a 2.0GT (First car at 19!), 3.0 Auto, 3.0 Manual (The tree car) & a couple of 2.8i's.
Got me wondering about buying another for a bit of a giggle............top entertainment.

The Scoob IS the modern day Capri
Being from East London/Essex of course I have owned a Capri
(2 in fact).(plus a V6 engined Escort Mexico but that's another story)
My first Capri was a low mileage pastel blue 3000 GXL (black vinyl roof natch) sold on from friend to friend which I demolished the local bus-stop with after popping in to the petrol station for ciggies whilst it was snowing...
(smoking really can be bad for your health:-)
The second was a metallic green 2.8i which actually handled quite well
(well anything does compared to a Mk 1 Capri:-) but sadly it kept breaking down with such annoying regularity (found out later it was only a stupid £20 relay)I sold it & bought an XR2 Fiesta:-(
My brother & virtually all our friends have owned at least one V6 Capri.
One mate Alan kept his 2.8i in daily use for 16 years, there was nothing else he fancied that was affordable. When I brought a non-Scooby owning friend to a Halfway House Essex meet he commented " these things are the modern day Capris " & I think he's right.
What I think would be interesting is to ask how current Scoob owners got from Capri (or equivalent) to Impreza as this would vary depending on age, earnings, marriage, kids, diversion into classics/bikes/hot hatches etc.
My path was R5 GT Turbo & 1965 Corvette (both sold to buy flat)
Capri 2.8i
Fiesta XR2
R5 GT Turbo (sold as I worked in Italy for a year)
Alfa 75 twin spark (bought here & driven to Italy)
Punto GT
MY97 Impreza (bought to celebrate promotion)
MY00 Impreza (bought rather unwisely with redundancy money)
MY02 STI Impreza (bought to celebrate selling flat)
John (very poor amateur sociologist)
