Default Volvo S70 1998 - any info?

Hi guys

Looking at buying a 1998 "R" reg Volvo S70 2.0 10v 5-cylinder to replace my 4-pot 2.0 Audi as a runaround.

Obviously it's silver in colour, and has loads of extras - sport pack (spoiler, alloys, front fogs), air con and cruise control (I think!).

I'm not expecting this to be a flying machine by any stretch of the imagination, it's only around 126 BHP or so. What I am wanting is refinement cos I do loads of motorway mileage in my daily driver, and my Audi is rather disappointing in that it has sports ratio gearbox meaning the engine noise gets very intrusive around 75 MPH. Are there any issues similar with the Volvo?

Also I want a car that's reliable, that was one of the main reasons I bought the Audi and it's been fine having done 25000 miles in the last year. The Volvo has a good rep too, is there anything to look out for? It's got a full 12 months MOT and has had a fair bit of suspension work just done (I'd guess the usual bushes, maybe dampers etc).

My other option was to switch my Audi to one very similar but with the 2.8 V6 engine which is far more powerful (174 BHP & 182 lb/ft) but more importantly is much smoother and quieter than the 4-pot. But the Volvo is newer and far better equipped - even the SE spec Audi has no air-con, no rear electric windows, no cruise, etc.

Opinions????

Cheers

PS It's a high miler (as are most of these, seems they mainly get used for M-way work). But from what I've read they can do high mileages without problems. Anyone agree or disagree?

It's reflected in the price which is why I'm interested - I try and spend as little as possible on my runaround cos that way you don't really lose money on them when racking up the miles, I've probably lost only a few hundred quid on my Audi in a year and 25k Put 25k onto your Scooby and it will cost you thousands in resale value let alone petrol
