And if the car hit the tree hard enought to do that then the engine etc. could be aout 2miles further down the road.

Yep, this was doing the rounds on here about a year ago. The general opinion was that the picture had been Photoshopped. I wouldn't know if it is or it isn't
If it is real, well thats another thing

Photoshopped without a doubt. Tiddly little tree trunk that's hardly damaged and with that sort of impact, I doubt if the tree would even be there.
Good pic though...

trees are hard, tree on a bend near my parents gets hit on average about 5 times a year, every year, it never looks damaged at all, its only still there because if it wasn't the cars would have ended up in someones living room.I don't think thats photoshopped, its def not an autobahn tho

My suspicions are this:
Road seems too narrow to reach that kind of destructive speed (impact speed looks at about 60mph...which means the speed prior to loosing control is 90-100mph). Too many by public bystanders, which either suggests it's a busy road - so would be dificult to reach that speed, or it's in/near a town/village (note the cyclist), again that speed would be difficult. The area isn't closed off. No police, no recovery truck, No sign of any machining/cutting done to the the car to remove any passengers. No litter from paramedics such as blood soaked bandages.
And finally The petrol tank on a MK5 Escort is underneath the rear passenger seats. As you can see, that has been completely mashed, so it's very likely for it to have split/punctured. You would not have bystanders that close if that were the case
Everyone in the picture appears to be of similar age and fashion sense (students??).
Looks to me like some sort of road safety publicity stunt. Although not sure exactly how you would go about bending a car like that, un less your very handy with the backhoe on a JCB

well ive written a golf off ( me mums ) ............jus the front wing and that shifted telegraph pole 6" sideways at ~45mph. I realise trees have roots but........... That thing is way too wrapped round as well i believe.

It's not photoshopped. I'm amazed people even believe someone would be able to do that - that's well beyond what Geroge Lucas could do!
It was infact a female driver who was doing 100mph before losing it and hitting the tree. She survived because she wasn't wearing a belt and was thrown clear.
It was on the Top Gear crashes site.

Now we see

Amazing how Chinese whispers turns a wet narrow road into an autobahn
I wasn't far with my guesstimated travelling and impact speeds Still looks staged...one cop car and no attempt at holding back bystanders from a potential explosion risk
