Default is there a perfect car?

my next car must be a convertible due to mid life crisis.here is a shortlist

new mr2 roadster underrated imho.
old slk 200 due to metal roof
audi tt roadster 225 due to 4 wheel drive plus chipping.
honda s2000 due to fast roof, reliability, cheap servicing. not common.
mx-5 due to reliable ,easy to fix but too common.

my ideal car would be the s2000 but with 4 wheel drive and a diesel engine with massive torque. and a metal folding roof.since i cant have this what car would you choose and why.

I looked at an MR2, serious lack of space I would have had to carry my computer case on the passenger seat, the boot is that small.

SLK is OK on German autobahns, a bit slow but on corners it's not impressive. Build quality is dodgy too, plastics a bit cheap.

I'd go for the Audi, plenty of tuning available, still looks good and VAG cars are usually built very well. I find Hondas a bit 'tinny'

Probably the closest you could get to a 'perfect' car would be a Cayenne Turbo. Fast, fun, big, go on road and off road. Handy, despite size, on a track day (I've experienced one of thes on track and I was impressed). Looks forkin ugly though.

But the S2000 engine is no oridinary four. Certainly sounds a lot better than scoobs boxer imo.

driven them all and i'd have the TT for balance of speed, looks, build spec, etc

a convertible is all about posing....ppl will think the Hondas an MX5.

and if its not about posing dont get a soft top.

I like our little 8 pot convertable. It's never going to be common and partnered with the Scoob, I think we've got all the bases covered.

Carl - I know where you're heading with that inline 4 remark It's just missing the other bank...

Funny you should say that, cause when i was talking to a guy at porshe nottingham, he has a cusomer who owns greek restraunts and he is massive, v-tall and wide, and tried to squeeze in the revised GT2, but it was too uncomfortable for him, so he ticked every box on a cayene turbo inc power pack and ceramic discs, and runs just shy of 600 bhp. He tracks this car and doesn't fare too bad, and on one excursion to Europe had a tussle with a 996 turbo and sat with him till 170 ish I think the concept is nutts but potentially the next 1000 bhp tunable car.

Why not a 3.0 Z4? 2 seats, convertible, torque, 6 cyl...

Think the Audi RS6 Avant - fulfills most citeria for me:

Estate
450bhp
Leather TV Satnav
Not too much badge snobbery or chavness
4x4
Almost a street sleeper - i.e. I could park it in the street.

Ah but yours is a "proper" V8. Mine's a flat plane crank, so it really is two inline fours

Just bought a V6 Merc for the missus too

Me too, but apparently the handling is poor. And it's £46k!

Drive one and then decide. You may forgive the costs if you see the way it drives compares to the others. Sensible use of specialists (if outside warranty) should mitigate most costs (specialists can do a far better job of looking after a plus 4 year old Porsche anyway).

Otherwise I'd go for the S2000 - looks and sounds great, feels special inside, "interesting" handling, still a rare sight and it'll never go wrong.
