Default Facts about AWD, RWD,Mid Rear, Rear-rear + FWD

looking for information on a Peugeot 306 Slalom that my brother is selling, the search engine picked up this link:

http://www.adamanda.org/cars/scooby/tests.html

Basically if this information is correct it seems fairly conclusive that AWD, certainly when talking about a 1998 impreza, is the best all rounder compared to RR, MR, FF, FR !

Oh dear

I remember that test - seems strange that the 911 is fastest on a constant radius bend in the wet - you'd assume that this would translate into the fastest time on the speed corner.

1 thing I do not believe - the 306 being 1.7 secs behind the others in slalom - the test car must've been totally shagged.

Ahh, but just throw in a few bumpy bends, and off camber roads coupled with hard braking and the MY98 Scoob will rapidly fall to to the back

Remember reading that test when I had an Impreza .

Were they allowed any corrective input, its just from the speed corner

They couldn't back off in the Elise or it would spin
The Elise isnt that snappy, and they could lift some, not completely. Just wondered

But then is it quicker to go through a corner slow in/fast out, or fast in, some lift, some correction, out? All the other seem to have some lift whilst going through the corner.

I would like to point out that given the test was in 1998 i assume they used 1998 cars - certainly it they used an E30 or E46 M3 it would definatly hold it's own over an impreza - and as for the 911 i can't believe that they would have used the 996 which is a very planted car in all weather and as for the elise in the dry - very dubious figures - still it is 'official' !!

Pedantic mode on, but the test seemed to be evaluating the grip and roadholding, NOT the handling.

No, you don't understand - the M3 didn't win hence the test is obviously worthless

Classic.

Another case of "we just have to prove our theory".

Not "lets do a test".

With a pre set agenda, you can *prove* just about anything.

4WD is excellent for crap roads and **** drivers. Makes **** drivers relatively competent. Hence most (most, repeat most, not all) scoob owners think they're Michael Schumacher in their "scoob".

RWD for sports cars and exotica.

FWD for every day road cars/shopping trolleys.

Think you'll find it's more like Colin Mcrae than Schumacher. When Scoob owners crash, they always blame the car, just like our Colin *coughranoutoftalentcough*

Its a skill to make any car handle good, or drive on the limits, AWD or not. Trying to make a FWD car go around corners quick and get the power down is a skilll some good racing drivers struggle with who can be very quick in RWD. Not sure where this fits in to the post

The bottom line is this. Everyone one here i assume has driven, or drives a performance car. Some cars put a grin on your on face some don't or some that should don't. it's your parogative. My personal opinion is i like RWD, but having seen this: http://usuarios.lycos.es/juankimalo/...ine-eleven.WMV i think porsche's are pretty special, the balance of these cars is wicked. Still what ever you feel comfortable in is the right car for you, not what people think you should have !
