best engine noise (this will be interesting ;-) )
What car do you guys think has the best engine noise?
As a former owner of two Imprezas (94 WRX + 99 RB5 WR)
I must confess that I am partial to boxers, but there is a
new kid on the block (for me anyway). I love the M3's
harsh, racing-like howl that they make - spine-tingling stuff.

Assuming standard exhaust systems???
If that's the case:
scoobs, porsches and Ferraris sound pretty crap IMO.
Err which M3 are you on about...the original evo 4-pot??

most modern cars sound pants due to noise regulations (including standard scooby). you have missed. i know the 360 does that exhaust trick at 5500rpm. but it still doesnt compare to the oldies.
alfasud 3.0 v6.
Lancia stratus
ferrari 250 LM
shelby gt
their sound walks all over the cars listed.

Top, top motors.
I'm assuming you have one?? Is it modified at all?? Mine was totally standard.
CSL has a bespoke intake/induction setup so makes a better noise inside..and slight exhaust mods. Still, I have to go with 996/sports exhaust. Only problem is it switches itself off between 30 and 45 mph due to noise emmision regulations..pah where's the fun in that? LOL

yeh, mine is a 98R M3 Evo Coupe - I've had two imprezas in the past (a 94 WRX and 99 RB5 WR Sport) - the M3 is 'different'. I think it is more scary than the Impreza in a way, especially in 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc

Cracking looking motor. Nice to see you've steered clear of **** alloys and Lexus rear lights.
Have you got any mods at all, any difference?? Mine was a saloon, totally standard and was faaarking quick. I thought about induction but people ripped me a bit.
The M3 Evo is a particularly good car, difficult to beat the all round excellence of a straight six with full variable cam timing. And yes it does sound good but the Ferrari is just that bit more stirring.
The Beemer's performance through the twisties is pretty impressive too, especially in the wet. 100 bhp/litre from a normally aspirated road engine is also good going by any standards.

I don't think you can get a better car for less than 20k.
Flame suit and all that rubbish now on....

Yep. Build and quality that of any car. Speed, well in a straight line it is quicker than any Impreza except maybe the crazy expensive ones. Handling is "good" but can be made great if you throw a grand at it.
Looks nice and is practical. Can do 28mpg combined to!!
i sold mine cos of mileage - how naive was I !!!!
I voted my second choice because my first choice wasn`t there. DWR 427Cu In Cobra with race exhaust pushing around 550 horses. Sounded like an aircraft engine at idle. MMMMMM going weak at the knees just remembering.

I'd agree, though I don't know about them wheels.....google here I come!!!
I like them to look standard, maybe lower but standard.
