Saab 9-5 Aero (250bhp)
Folks,
I'm looking around for another moter. Moving on from my aging E36 328i coupe.
Was looking for a BMW 540i sport auto, but these appear to be like rocking horse ****, especially low(ish) milage ones.
Alternatives... Jag X-type 3.0 sport
or
Saab 9-5 Aero (Hot) which is 250bhp of front wheel drive madness. Anyone any experience of these, or should I chill out and wait for a 540 sport ?
Cheers
Mark

Saab is fantastic.
I had the 2.3 Turbo and had it tuned up madly by AbbotRacing.Com
Great fun!
Also look at the Hirsch Upgrades. Gorgeous! Hirsch to Saab is what AMG is to Merc.
Saab over the X Type personally.
540i Sport are good fun. But you cant beat the Saab IMO for comfyness and I love them.
Miss mine

My dad has a 9-5 Aero Estate. It's the 2002 Auto which seems to drive far better than the previous 9-5 Aero, which insisted on trying to hurl you towards a wall whenever you used 'kickdown'!
They are extremely comfortable and well built. We have had an annoying vibration coming from the interior light that turned out to be a label buzzing loose.
The driving position is superb as is the internal heating/cooling.
If driven carefully they don't even eat their tyres too badly. Dad's just covered 30k and the fronts are about 1 or 2k off being replaced.
I have driven it in all sorts of weather and have never had a problem with front end traction. Even in snow it performed admirably, when all the merc's and bmw's were falling off the roads our Saab soldiered on with Winter mode keeping everything together.
A car i can highly recommend.....it's very quick too in the 50 - 100 blast.
Hope this helps

Only been in one once and thought it was horrible...lots of wheelspin, and a very dodgy chasis...plus it depreciates faster than most...probably makes it good for a second hand buy, mind.
Try one, it might be your thing...comfy, big, quick (in a straight line when rolling), but after a few minutes in one, I decided not any fun, uninvolving, heavy, and I knew I'd be bored silly within a month
For servicing I assume specialists are OK, but the two main dealers the old man has used (he's got a 9-5 LPT) are horrific for trying to stitch him up...he's managed to cultivate one of the mechanics who sorts him out as a sideline. Absolutely disgraceful what they try and pull on a 70-year old with a car 2 weeks out of warranty (fortunately he's a stroppy git, who knows his cars, and takes no ****)

the saab is a fantastic car - but from a 328i sport, you need to be in a E46 330i Club sport / 330d Coupe, once you have had RWD, FWD doesn't ever seem to be up to the job, and the quality and service will never better a BMW -

I used to have one and I really loved it. Great for doing big miles, very very comfortable. Mine too was played with by Abbott Racing, rather brisk shall we say

Haven't bought it (yet) but been to look at it tonight. Very very impressive interiers. Off back on Saturday to take for a test.
Just checking out Abbott Racing
