New GOLF GTI MK5 (Breaks the Bank)
VW today released the price and specification of the new Golf GTI
www.thenewgolfgti.co.uk
Just spec'd a car up on there configurtor and it works out to £23k and thats WITHOUT leather and Sat Nav
What really gets me is that it has 17" as standard. And to have the 18" option its a £900 cost !!!! and they are the same design wheel just 1" bigger.
...................... Hope its a good car for that kind of money.

Can't seem to get the URL working .. probably our crappy work DNS.
VW claim that it's going back to it's roots and producing a GTI once again worthy of the badge - somehow I doubt that. But I certainly expect it to be an excellent driver's car.
Think I'll stick with my Mk2 for now though.

So I reckon the GTI will still be a reletively warm hatch, and they'll do another range topper R at a later date.

Ah yes the 'R'. You're right I expect they'll shoehorn an engine from one of their luxo-barges into the Golf at some point, in the mistaken impression that'll make it a good car

True but at least Vauxhall have made an effort to have the car looking nice and a bit different from everything else.

You're kidding right? It looks like they've taken bits from the 10 best selling euro/jap boxes, stick it in a mixer and the Astra popped out. Is no more "different" than a 307 and certainly nowhere near something like a Megane (thank god )

The 3 door astra's a lot nicer than the 5 door, quite a lot of difference,i am going by the gtc concept tho, apparently the production model hasen't changed much from that concept tho
