CIVIC TYPE R'S
A guy in my works says his new Civic Type R will have better fuel consumption than my MY98UK turbo. What is the score?

He's right, a CTR uses less fuel.
Main reasons:
- FWD
- less torque, no turbo, etc.
- more modern engine management and EU emissions regulations to meet
- best normally aspirated engine in every way, low weight, compact, etc.

I own a Scoob and a CTR, and if the CTR is driven mainly in the V-TEC zone, then the fuel consumption is totally comparable to the Scoob.
Don't forget, there are some members of this forum who have had close to 400 miles from a tank in a Scoob, by driving mainly off boost on long journeys.
A Scoob driven off boost will get better MPG than a CTR driven in "the zone"

use to own a ctr....very greedy
because you could not stop listening to the v-tec
all you did was plant the right foot
but dont right them off because in the right hands a very serious threat to a scooby.....

Tell him what the heck his car is shi*e - I also owned a ctr for 5and a half months - even in the vetec zone you wanted more power. Must'nt grumble though as I bought it abroad and sold it for more than I paid for it........
Fuel consumption - never take any notice of that!!

Slower? Civic 150mph - actually quicker top end than UK Impreza and about 1 sec slower to 60mph
Naturally aspirated? Correct
Smaller engine? No, they are both 2 litre
Oh well, 1 out of 4 ain't bad!

LOL Talizman, i filled up my CTR this morning and worked out the MPG as 34 aint too bad but like Tali says if u drive it in the VTec zone then it's been known to work out less than 20 Mpg it's all relative to how u drive the car, exactly the same as a 98Uk Turbo would be.
Oh and Fangoria if a CTR is so Shi*e then what other FWD car can do 150mph 0-60 in 6.5 secs and be bought for £16k from a UK dealer and run on bugger all cash???

Just a bit of backgound on the whole VTEC thing, Hondas goal was to create an engine that was both powerful and economical.. hence the VTEC system.. moosing around town and crusing you get good economy, when the VTEC kicks in you get the power and uber consumption.. pretty much like been on/off boost on a turbo car..
don't try to compare and contrast a civic type r and a scoob - different market segments

To be honest, the main reason for me posting this thread was that my mate at work with the Type R asked me to post any thread to get some general feedback to rate it against the 'Type R net' or whatever you call it. His initial opinion was that it was crap and thet the Scoobynet is far superior - shame he has not admitted that the Subarus are also far superior!! He picked his up (new) last week and I also got mine back with a new API engine in it on the same day. Hence we are both running ours in, in preparation for the big race!!!
