Default Some Advice Please on New Car Purchase.

After what seems an exhaustive search (pardon that awful pun ) of various car showrooms we've finally found a car for Rachel that matches the criteria of delivery times, performance etc etc.
The Volkswagon Lupo GTi.
She loves it and wants to order one this week
From what I understand this car is coming to the end of it's production run before the next generation Lupo arrives. Am I right in thinking this gives us room to bargain for a good deal? Does anyone have any insights they'd like to share on getting a better deal? How to play the dealerships? Is it worth ringing several? See what they offer?
Obviously we want to get the best price/deal possible so any tips that could help us would be great.
Thanks.

Nice little car

Im not sure what the dealer prices are, but perhaps you can use these prices as an example.

JamJar.com - £12,693.60
AutoBytel.co.uk - £11,681

The test drive was a revelation Such a fun car, very nice gearbox. But I won't go into that side of things anymore because the thread will end up in other marques
Thanks for that Jaybird.
There is a current VW offer of £1000 off these models.
The prices quoted at the dealership:
£13725 Reflex Silver + Air Con (£310 & £960 options respectively)
£12620 Black no aircon.
These 3 cars are the only ones in the UK (apparently) available for Delivery 1st September. Just don't want to be sucker punched into paying over the odds you know?
Really want to try to get the best I can for Rachel (it'll be her car) and hopefully but not absolutley, use a dealership. She has a preference for this, but I think could be talked out of it.

Shop around and you'll get a better deal. Trust me, I've got 16 years of working in the game and they'll only be too pleased to get an old model out the door especially when theres a new one in. Dont listen to the exclusivativity speal from the salesperson.

Try another 4 or 5 dealers and then play one against the other. The might not make much money on the initial sale, but theres always volume bonuses that they'll get in leu of. Plus it'll be another number in the regisrtaion game they play .....

Do the deal how your both happy and dont worry about kicking them in the goolies. Its not personal to them and you wouldn't want to kick yourself afterwards for not asking for something that someone else will get foc.

47 NAT's advice is spot on! Additionally, if you can be patient and wait for the 'new' reg period to pass when cars don't sell so easily (they don't sell 'easily' at any time so make that less/more hard) then an even better deal will be available.

AND rememeber, some car sales folk speak with forked tongue...

Talking

I had a look on Drive the Deal http://www.drivethedeal.com and the price they state for a Lupo GTi with Air Con and metallic is £12,669.60. Perhaps it would be worth having a look at them? According to their site they only supply brand new UK supplied cars from main dealers.

I've no connection to them, and I'm not sure if anyone on here has experience of using them. I was looking at them for possibly buying a Skoda Fabia vRS.
