Exclamation Volvo C70 2.3 T5 GT - urgent advice needed

Just been to view one of these and have agreed an initial price based on a HPI check etc

The car has done 80, 000 miles and is due it's next service in 1000 miles.
It doesn't look like the cambelt has been changed yet and he was under the impression it doesn't need to be changed until 100, 000 miles but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have or has anyone had a Volvo?
I'm supposed to be going back tomorrow and I can't check with my local dealer cos they are closed for the day.

I'm trying to find out:
what the cost of a service would be
when the cambelt should be changed
how much this would cost to do

In addition the car has vibration at 70 mph, I'm guessing this is either the tyre pressure or the tracking. Does anyone have any clues?

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated

Vibration could be balancing. Is it through the steering or the dash?

Current models up to 1999 model year require a service every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is sooner, including diesels.

For 2000 -2001 model year inclusive, petrol cars (excluding 1.8i (122bhp Direct injection)) require the first service at 6,000 miles or 12 months whichever is sooner. Then every 12,000 miles or 12 months after that, which ever is sooner.

For 2000 -2001model year inclusive, diesels and SE 1.8i (122bhp Direct injection) require a service every 10,000 miles or 12 months which ever is sooner.

From 2002 model year, petrol cars (excluding 1.8i (122bhp Direct injection)), LPG, CNG and Diesel engines require a service every 12,000miles or 12 months whichever is sooner.

From 2002 model year,1.8i 122bhp(Direct injection) petrol engines only, require a service every 10,000 miles or 12 months which ever is sooner.

All servicing costs are subject to individual dealer pricing. The content of the service will depend on the model, age and mileage of your car, assuming normal driving conditions. A bodywork inspection is also included in every service, in accordance with the eight year anti-corrosion warranty.

Cheers for the response Tarquin, sorry should have said it's a December 1998

Vibration is from the steering wheel.

In addition I'm just checking the HPI website, does anyone know what the VRM is? Looked for jargon interpreter etc but can't seem to find out.

Cheers

In which case I think it's either 6 or 10k servicing. Not sure on the cambelt though, would have thought 36k at a guess.

Vibrating steering wheel is front wheels need balancing, less than a tenner. Has it got new tyres on the front by any chance?

VRM is vehicle registration mark - i.e. the number plate!

The boy, If you do decide to buy this car please post up your thoughts on how it has been, as I have been toying with replacing the scoob with a C70, there doesnt seem to be a lot of people around who know much about them to pass on experiences.

Think it will be the non-turbo I'm goin for tho' as I'm trying to keep the fuel costs down!

Cheers

I was looking the C70 around 5 years ago as a company car and was given a demonstrator for a weekend. It was just the basic 2ltr model (iirc) but I liked it. Very comfy seats, decent space and the sound system was exellent.

I was thinking about one myself recently but have decided to get something sub £4-5k.

Default gerrit bought!!

Well I bought it this morning and am well chuffed

Needs a service and a little bit of TLC but apart from that it's great.
Spoke to a Volvo specialist up here and the cambelt plus service will cost approx £150 which I thought was a good result

HPI gave it the all clear and I managed to get my banker's draft sorted at short notice.

Then went out and booked a 2 week holiday this afternoon, am on cloud 9

D8UGF, if you gimme a prod when you're thinking of buying and I should be in a better position to let you know what I think. Have only driven it for 20 minutes this morning on my way to work. TBH I don't think Id' have any other than the T5 even my insurance was reasonable at £725 full comp and it's a group 17.

Cheers for the info Artful_Dodger, found that site late last night and managed to post some questions.

Enjoy! - beware if you've got an Estate - you suddenly get popular with all friends/family who need a fridge/table/whatever moved.

The boy,

Its well freaky I was justing coming into this section to ask questions about the same model car, spent the day at work researching them, have you looked at www.volvo-t5.co.uk there's loads of good stuff of there about the C70, what colour did you get it the end? I really fancy the saffron (sp?) colour.

Cheers

Hey Danny,

Been posting most of my stuff here so far but will defo check out the T5 site

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/dcboard.php

The car is in Silver and looks the dog's danglies.
Only bad thing I can say about this car is the turning circle. It has been noted before and I expected it but I had to laugh when I couldn't even pull into my parking space in 1 go...
