I have one !
Nice car the more sophisticated Impreza.
Look for normal things.
The shocks are rebuildable look for leaks etc Mine had a noisy exhaust not sure if standard or not - I imagine so.
People have said the inside front pads wear quicker than the outside - I will leave it to you to figure out how to check that.
Oil and air filter are standard Impreza items. Plugs are not.
Graham Goode ordered some for me £68 for 4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! People have said that was pricey but they matched those that came out.
There is a noticable drop in power netween the turbos at about 3 - 4000. The second turbo kicks in at about 4500. It should really fly if you stamp your foot down in second gear.
Check for tyre wear.
I have not had mine that long but have had no probs / concerns with it.
Sometimes if in 5th a 2500 revs and you put your foot down it does not like it and really hesitates. When cold it can be jerky esp as you catch the 1st turbo. Drive it slowly and steadily upto about 4000 a couple of times and it will be fine, but do not thrash it until warmed up.
Insurance is not cheap I pay £1100.
It is not good on petrol, but that depends on how you drive it.
Subaru main dealers will not touch it, but plenty of specialists will service it for you.
There are others on here that know more than me, but I will try to give you what I know.
Buy the manual, I did not like the auto at all.

Thanks Del, much appreciated.
It's a manual I'm looking at, in a lairy yellow\gold colour. Sounds awful, but actually looks nice - quite striking.
Petrol doesn't worry me, although insurance was a bit of a shock. Being an old fart (30 this year) I expected them to pay me ! But Tesco's want £950 a year, which I spose isn't TOO bad. (Kinda used to high premiums by now )
Where abouts in the world are you ? Just wondering if there is a specialist near me, I'm in West Sussex - not too far from Gatwick.
Cheers

Mine was imported new by Park Lane, and they have put the first 3 stamps in the book.
I live in Dartford, and there is one near Chelmsford in Essex.
Group20 cars had a bronze/gold one in stock and I quite liked it, but that brings back to your point of selling it on. Mine is silver and most people will buy a silver car.
You will find it difficult to get a handbook/workshop manual, I have an ordinary legacy book, that at the very least shows where fuses live etc etc.

Cheers Del, I am a little worried about resale as it's the Pheonix Yellow. I kinda like it, so I'll probably go for it anyway But I daresay it's not too everyone's taste.
Anyone know if they're difficult to sell on generally ?
And anyone out there any good for tuning them
Oh, and good point R1916v
Cheers
Matt
PS. What's better than having a car with a turbo ?

Handbooks are available I forget the company that supplies them!
We've had our MY99 a couple of years now also a Park Lane car but we used to get it serviced at Scoobysport will probably take it to Xtreme for the next service.
If you're looking at tuning then make sure you have plenty of money as the B4 is not an easy car to modify.
MPG is our problem, 19-25mpg is about the average although closer to 19 (I'm told its all down to driving style!!)
As for selling them on, I dont know, it took us 7 months to find a good one (still think they look best in white with the pimp tints!)
The only problem I've ever found is parts, recently had to replace the front end suspension, quite difficult to track down model specific parts over here (found it eventually!) and Subaru UK won't confirm if any panels or "changeable parts" will fit.
Just as a guide I believe a front Bronzed windscreen will set you back £1500 (for the original japanese screen) or £300 for a UK (non tint or tinted strip) but Subaru wont confirm that the parts will fit!
Check out the B4 RSK forum on yahoo plenty of good advice and help available there.

Great car...60k miles in last 3 years after buying mine from Park Lane where all servicing has been done....hasnt skipped a beat. New windscreen 8 months ago had to be sourced from Japan (via Autoglass), which would only have been £800 (!!!). Have heard that the ordinary Euro one will fit, but no green sun-strip...luckily picked up with a £40 excess from the insurance.
Try London Victoria for the insurance....better than Tescos for me for the last 2 years, but then again I'm 7 years more wrinkly than you!
Oh, and dont expect those miserable Impreza buggers to wave at you

I have an old Legacy GT Twin Turbo and have been looking for tuning info for a couple of weeks now. So far, I have been unable to find anyone but let me know if you ever find anyone who can tune out the VOD (valley of death) between 4.5 and 5 krpm. My understanding is that this is "impossible".
Frankly there is plenty of power already and you would probably need a full engine rebuild if tuning seriously but a few mods shouldn't do any harm. The car is hilarious to drive (especially for a big estate) there is an almighty kick once the second turbo kicks in. Unfortunately mine is an auto and it's virtually impossible to use all of the power in town because it is so unpredictable. I still love it to bits though.
Screwd.

Who cares about re-sale, you won't want to get rid of it
B4 onwards can be ECUTek'd, or Motec (ching!) etc, to reduce the VOD + some more bhp.
Servicing isn't complicated, certainly no more than the Impreza.
I've never regretted buying mine.

I had my imported Impreza for 3 years and really struggled to get dealers to part ex it. I wanted to buy a B4 but Park Lane didnt have any ! The only people who did have them werent keen for my car....said they had enough imports ! Maybe I was unlucky.
In the end had to buy something else (Merc C43) as I got fed up with it and didnt fancy selling pvtly (probably an error in retrospect). Like the Merc though.

Is it straight forward to register and get plates on a B4RSK in UK? I'm thinking of importing one to Norway, but as these were never sold new in Norway, I'm not confident it will go through all the technical approval, does it have a type approval number? (typically starts with e*..... followed by tons of digits) Who should I contact, to get more info on UK-registered B4RSKs? Thanx in advance.

Gunnar

I've test drive a few RSKs and a Bltizen over the past few months, all very nice, and the auto one with the tiptronic gear lever or wheel mounted changes are nice.
I left London last year and do not recall ever having seen any Legacys so it is nice to know there are some there. Do you guys know the power of the UK ones? I was of the understanding that only Japan and NZ had the full 276bhp and everywhere else got detuned versions (even Aussie).
I should be getting a new car next month, so will be making up mind between an RSK, a Legnum VR4 (twin turbo 276bhp 2.5L V6) or a Diamante AWD VR (3.5L NA V6 215bhp).

IIRC the RSK B4 is 276, whereas the autos are 260...but I think that is on 100RON petrol...so I would assume optimax will be below that!!
The only ones we get are imported anyway, so they are the same cars you know
