EVO 6 or STI 7?
Simple question really - Now they can both be had for similar money (about £15000 - £16000) which one's best and why, from a mainly performance point of view?
Any help appreciated!

Both cars are really great and I think It´s your opinion what to choose. Many EVO VI users i Sweden had problems with the stock clutch. And replaced them with a better one that can handles the factory power. In England you can choose between the standard EVO VI, EVO VI RS and Tommi Mäkinen edition. The Tommi Mäkinen edition is a better choose if You want a car to use when It´s snow outside, because it is rustprotected underneath and has a little more isolation. The RS is a weight saved car like the Subaru Spec cars.
The EVO VI has one advantage and that is the look. It thrusts respect when other drivers see you in traffic :-)
But Mitsu can´t take one thing away from Subaru and that is the wonderful sound from the boxer engines. That is one of the aspects why i ordered the new STI 05 instead of EVO VIII

I've had both, and it has to be the STi - but a JDM one.
See my web-site for info on running both.

It depends what you're looking for from a car.
If you want to just climb in and potter about with the odd blast in there for good measure, then the Scooby is the sensible option, and is one of the best cars out there.
If, however, you want a car to make you feel like you're a 'proper' driver, and you're prepared to work at it (they take some time to get used to, in order to get the most from them) and you can live with the small tank and more frequent servicing, then you MUST go for the Evo. They're also much less common and far better looking, but that's a matter for personal taste.
TM Edition (Evo 6.5) would be the best buy, but they demand a premium over standard cars. Worth it though, IMHO.
If I didn't have my VII I'd have a TM.

Before I got the Evo v I had heard of how hard the ride was, how small the tank was, and all the other anti Evo talk. In the short time I've had it I can honestly say it's all B*****cks!!! It's no harder than the scoob which had prodrive suspension, it's no worse on fuel after you take into account the shorter gearing, (but whatever you drive you still have to put petrol in!!) Service costs? I have just give it a full 45k cambelt service for £350.00 (inc blitz panel filter). Ins costs? I can't really compare, yes it was more expensive but then again my Scoob wasn't an import. Handling? Ever been on the wild mouse at blackpool pleasure beach? well that's how it feels, I don't know the technicallities of AYC but it feckin works!!! So EVO or SCOOB? well I'll be perfectly honest with you, if someone came up to me tomorrow and offered me a swap for a STI 8/Evo6. I'd snap his hand off, why? because at the end of the day a car is a car is a car, and if it goes as well as the Evo V but is newer!!! then that's reason enough for me.
P.S. Evo V versus UK2000PPP...........................No contest EVO V everytime!!!

Having gone from a STI7PPP to a VIII FQ300,without question the EVO is the quicker car with a lot more tuning capabilities than the scoob,350-360bhp is very easily obtainable for not a great deal of money,ok 6sp v 5sp,smaller tank, smaller service intervals, but well worth it,just watch the AYC on the VI can be a bit snappy!,but for overall looks, performance and rarity its got to be the dark side!!!.......
P.s. you havnt lived till youve owned a EVO,Premiership V 1st division!!!

It's each to their own really. U have to drive them both to find out which is the best one for you.
I bought a MY02 WRX then thought about changing it for an EVO VIII FQ 330, bit quicker but a lot thirstier much much harder ride. And it gave me back ache after 20 minutes.
I then drove an STi and an STi PPP before buying a WR1.
You pays ur money and u takes ur choice, as they say!
Good luck
Chris

...but, when you do get the Evo (I think you're being persuaded to go that way ) keep on SN, cos (IMHO) MLR is cr@p. Nowhere near as friendly, helpful or welcoming as SN. If you want a decent Evo forum then try www.lancer-evo.net it's only small at the moment in terms of members, but the potential is there, and the chap who runs / owns it is spot on.

It's the handling that makes the difference. Straight forward performance difference is so small it's not worth talking about.
But that's not why I bought one...
...Looks, presence on the road, on-demand drifts round roundabouts, FAR better seats, and more smiles per mile than the Scoob could EVER manage (and I loved that to bits!!)
Don't worry about what folk say about the sound, the burble might be nice at low revs, but evo's howl when they're being gunned, and it sounds f'kin' fantastic.
In all honesty, the only thing I miss about an Impreza is the frameless glass. Makes getting in and out in tight spaces easier. (well, it does if you've got full closure on yer alarm )

The old EVO VI is faster than EVO VII and VIII. The new shaped EVO weight more than the EVO VI.
We drove a standard EVO VI against a standard EVO VIII in a little straight line test, and the VI pulled away from the VIII.
Now performance shouldn´t just be measured like this. Cornering and demanding road performance is more right to measure.
To many today thinks that a car is fast just because the 0-60 times :-)
